GOBC stands for Good Old Boys Club.

To become a member, well:
1. You have to be in good standing with the community.
2. You have to have existed in the hosting industry for multiple years.

Great idea, Charles.

A new organization will be forming soon (within 30 days) just for those purposes.

It will be an association of independent web providers. Part of its mission will be:

Professionalism, honesty and ethics in providing web services.

Establishing a standard which can be trusted.

Providing resources for both providers and their customers.

Providing a means of resolving complaints regarding web services.

Addressing industry problems and issues within a communicty of like-minded professionals.

Providing information for consumers and links to other valuable sites.

It will in no way be designed to compete or take away from excellent sites such as WHT. In fact, they will be among the sites it suggests for additional information.


Oh, and I vote for Daniel, Jay, and Tina....all leaders among our community. Not slighting Alan, who has shown the commitment, just not yet the track record of the other three.

I bet if you search the archives, oh back about a year and a half ago or so, you'll find this same topic discussed to death.

There was even a website created as I recall - professional web developers guild or some such silliness.

Never got off the ground as I recall.

Came down to a self-serving organization that would self-judge and self-censor as I recall. Who decides how a company qualifies for membership? Who decides whether someone should stay in the guild or not?

Independant? Hardly.

Self-serving? Absolutely.

Ignored by the general public? Was last time...

Thinking probably will be ignored by the public...

and guess all organizations are somewhat self serving....even those we respect like Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, American Bar Association, American Institute of CPA's-guess most all industry associations are at the very least self-serving to their members. So, guess the question is, "do they provide a benefit/service to their membership." Guess we shall have to wait and see.

But your points are certainly well taken. Maybe we should just all join Charles club....oh, I forgot....we have to be voted in....except Charles already voted Wizards....wonder if he voted himself in, too.....also wonder....just what will be find in the tree house....need to know more about the club I can't get in.

I dont vote anyone in except the first person, as i was lonely sitting in the tree house all by myself.... all new members have to be voted in by everyone else!

Oh....and you should go for naming rights of a stadium or arena....would really help the club...maybe even as much as your Nascar logos...I hear a great stadium in Houston is available for naming rights.

Due to a vote between all the members in GOBC we have here by decided that incognito is banned from joining based upon the fact that he blocked our escape slides.

I wouldn't want to join any club that would let the likes of me in. Only those who reject me.

So, now I really want to join.

I voted for Tina, as I think every 'Good Old Boys Club' needs a good young, strong woman to keep you boys in line and lead them. I also think Tina might be able to tell you that the curtains you chose simply do not match Charles. Finally, I voted for her as I think a female may just keep you all out of trouble and prevent you from shooting your eye out with those sling shots...

Then she will boot Charles out and I will be in.....

We are using a sattelite dish to connect to the internet from our tree house.

And....how are you uploading?

Actually...thought of a more evil strategy....tell their customers where the tree house is...and then all the customers will still choose to try to contact them there, ratther than using their excellent support systems....just like everyone coming here and to other forums with support issues.

By the way...how large is the tree house....how many hosts is it going to hold?

2 Way satellite, not cheap but you do get them :)
