View Full Version : Client Exec vs Modern Bill?
Masud 02-06-2005, 07:53 AM Guys, I am confused about using ClientExec OR Modernbill as the billing system for my new site...
Would you please share your experience with me?
Tell me disadvantage / loop holes of ClientExec cause its cheaper and I might use it.
Thanks
VER-Mo 02-06-2005, 08:04 AM This is like comparing a shovel with a plough truck. There are certain things that you need nothing more than a shovel for, cases where a plough truck would be considered an overkill, and vice-versa.
I use clientexec. Its not half as robust as modernbill but it does what it needs to do. It does not create accounts automatically upon signup like modernbill can, and its support for recurring billing is less than stellar. However, it has the most user friendly interface Ive seen on any billing manager, and the features it has are more than enough to help me manage my customers well.
layer0 02-06-2005, 10:05 AM ClientExec would be the simple and easy to configure software that is suitable for small needs. ModernBill would be the hard to configure advanced software that is good for larger companies or someone who wants a lot of features. If you choose ModernBill, you may experience some frustration when trying to configure ModernBill but do not let that stop you and be very patient.
gghosting 02-06-2005, 10:36 AM I been using php Coin for a while, until two weeks ago when I switched from php Coin to ClientExec and I must say that I am very happy with it. The invoices come attached to the client's e-mails in a pdf format and they look very professional.
You might want to start off with ClientExec and as you get bigger go to ModernBill.
PTNHosting 02-06-2005, 11:18 AM I have tried Modernbill, but it is to complicated for the basic needs, so I just Went back to ClientExec.
BFX Hosting 02-06-2005, 11:49 AM can you compare all this to whm auto polit please thanks
Masud 02-06-2005, 07:44 PM Thanks guys - I am positive about ClientExec - Ubersmith looks good but too expensive

WHM AP is similar to clientexec. It is good for "smaller" hosts who only require basic features, simple whm/cpanel integration, and don't have more then a few hundred customers.
However, once you get past that few hundred customer mark, you will probably start needing some of the features that are not found in AutoPilot... but are found in ModernBill. ModernBill is FULL of features and functionality. In fact, it has so many that it is probably the most difficult and complex, hard to setup, billing software I've ever seen.
But if you plan to be in the hosting industry for a while and grow your company, then you will eventually learn to love modernbill and the power it has.
Ubersmith.com is also very good. It looks great to your customers, has most features you will need.. but it is more expensive then the competition. I believe the market they are going after is more "established" hosts who just want something good and that is very reliable and works.
Masud 02-06-2005, 07:57 PM Totally agree regarding Ubersmith. Features are also very very good but its too expensive from small hosts.
I think I will go for ClientExec and then will think about ModernBill.
BFX Hosting 02-06-2005, 08:01 PM alright thanks guys I had whmap but I got rid of it and got CE then I will get MB will I need it
PTNHosting 02-07-2005, 12:40 AM And probablly ClientExec wil have the much of modernbill features very soon. The Future of CE is getting very good promissiog latly.
Regards.
BFX Hosting 02-07-2005, 03:26 PM awsome looking forward to that then most likey same price right
Masud 02-07-2005, 04:23 PM Wonderful - I am glad I'm going with CE
aingaran 02-09-2005, 10:15 AM I have a question about recurring payments with CE.
If you have 2checkout.com enabled, does a customer have to enter their credit card information every single time an invoice is to be paid?
I know that's the case with paypal, where the customer has to login and make payment manually.
Masud 02-20-2005, 02:19 PM Well, even I myself am eagerly waiting for an answer on aingaran's question ;)
HostingInsider 02-20-2005, 03:33 PM Don't use PHP Coin! It is just awful. Whoiscart is $35, you may want to look at that. The one I like is Account Labs, which is FREE, but works like $100 software. I am very pleased with it.
VN-Ken 02-21-2005, 04:23 PM I would say that ClientExec is better than ModernBill. In my experience, ClientExec (Beta) is much better looking than ModernBill, and much much easier to configure. While on the other hand, ModernBill is just too advanced for me. I needed something to where I can just do a 30-60 minute setup then start using it. It could take you days to figure out how to use ModernBill. I guess it's just too modern for me :|
So CE gets my vote :D
okihost 02-21-2005, 05:05 PM I have been using Modernbill for 2 1/2 years and I love it, The support sucks and it can be a beast to configure but once you get it up and running it is pretty much smooth sailing and as everyone else mentioned has many added features other billing clients do not.
I knew when I started with Modernbill it would be a royal PITA if I ever had to move so I just went with it and over the years I have founds some of the added features really do come in handle.
