I want to register a german (.de) domain and would appreciate advice as to which registar is ok and low cost.

Are you located in Germany or elsewhere?
I ask because if you are not located there the prices differ because at least the Admin-C has to be a german address, so services for international customers are more expensive.

But I think I would just make up a german address without having sleepless nights because of that... ;-)

Just they should if possible accept credit card for payment and renewal, and better not try to mail an invoice to such fake address...
