View Full Version : Google AdWords Is Being Hijacked…Are you losing $$$?

several keywords were being attacked on Google’s AdWords. Such search terms as “web hosting,” “irs,” “mortgage” and even “ebay” have been showing significantly fewer AdWords ads appearing in the search results. Over the last several hours I have tested several more search terms and can see that something is NOT WORKING on AdWords. A great deal of money is at stake here. Companies across the map are losing an invaluable revenue stream that has been trusted for the last 2 years and resurrected the internet, not to mention all of the publishers! Check out this story for the details http://www.thehostingnews.com/article1008.html.

Interesting read. Just goes to show that some people don't have any sense of fair business practices anymore. Heh, makes you wonder if they really WERE raised in a barn. :)

I noticed that the other day. Web Hosting keyword brought up ONE adword ad. I then created the keyword phrase in my adword campaign manager just to see what would happen, and set the max bid to 5 cents, instead of the going rate of about $8.00. And my five cent ad started appearing below the only other adword ad for a few minutes, then it stopped showing up.

I was going to start using AdWords recently too. I don't think it's a good idea now?

Adwords is worthless. Its expensive and rarely generates good click throughs. I would stick to industry specific directories like hostsearch.com, etc.

XiON is correctly. Adwords doesn't lead any sales to your site. ISPCheck and such are better, cheaper some way.

I'd have to agree, I don't think it has generated any sales that I can prove any sales were a result of adwords. But it seems like when I use ISPCheck only the rate of fraudulent orders increases. It must be where many of the crooks go to find hosting. Or I could be wrong and it is coincidence. My experience with any advertising at all in minimal at best. 90% of our sales comes from referall of current customers.

Correct.. it is.

Also, did anyone else notice one of the links in the author's web browser's toolbar (in the screenshot)? Apparently he/she is a big fan of "Gay.com" .. I am definitely not against it or anything, but I find that highly unprofessional to have something like that in your so-called "professional" article.

You guys obviously aren't doing it right....Adwords CAN make you a lot of money...however, these attacks also lost us a fair bit in one day and therefore we've had to re-evaluate certain keywords...

What are the odds that those are paid placements? It'd be a semi-decent idea to have your name in all the screenshots that were used for articles.. as long as the readership was big enough. Of course, not everyone is going to notice them.. but then again.. YOU did? How many others do you think would?

IMO, I seriousily doubt the toolbar space in that screenshot was meant for advertising space. Look at all the other sites in there.. I doubt they would give the editor, Paul Alley, a nickel to put their site in there.

I agree it would be a semi-decent idea for advertising if your site has a lot of screenshots.

In this case, it was the editor's first article posted on there and it has the screenshot, so again, I am sticking with the editor making an accident.

I also like the new article "Google Adwords Hijacked" posted by "whatever" on HostingTech.com and mentioned on WHT on the right hand side with the latest HostingTech articles. Apparently the author of the article called himself on the phone for the interview. Seems to be the author owns a web hosting company who then turned around and called his web hosting company to get a quote for his article.

I guess this is a new way of making press releases .. lol

Yea, it took me a few hundred dollars to figure that out too. I've stopped using ISP check. Whenever I would advertise there, I would get 2-3 fraud signups per day, most of them Vietnamese.
