I signed up with Aletiahosting.com on February 10. For the first few days, I transferred my sites, set up my email accounts, experimented with different settings, etc.
A few days after signing up, I wanted to know how to set the value of the Aletia hit counter (info that is not in their counter documentation). First, I searched their online forums, but couldn't find the answer to my questions. So, I filled out one of their support request tickets and waited, thinking that they'd answer that easy question in a few minutes. Instead, it took them 2 days to reply. That's when I realized that Aletia's boatload of server space and monthly transfer isn't as important to me as fast, reliable tech support.
So, I wrote to sales@aletia.net, to ask them to cancel my account and issue a refund (they offer a 30-day money back guarantee). I even found the VERY SPECIFIC instructions for requesting a cancelation in their voluminous FAQ, and I followed those instructions, telling them my account number, my domain name, and which server my account was on (wouldn't you think that they would already know that one. I'm sure that many Aletia customers don't know which server their account is hosted on -- does that mean they can never cancel their Aletia accounts?).
I first wrote to Aletia on February 17, only 7 days after I had signed up with them, to ask them to cancel my account and issue a refund. Now, it's been more than 6 days, but they have not canceled my account. They have not issued a refund to me. They have not even REPLIED to any of the email messages that I've sent them every day.
In the meantime, last weekend, I signed up for Rochenhost.com. They offer much less server space and monthly transfer than Aletia, but, while I was setting things up on their server, I corresponded with their tech support about 10 times in only one day -- they replied to each of my messages quickly and politely.
If anyone from Aletia reads this, please walk down the hall, wake up someone in your sales department, and tell them to cancel my account and give me a refund.
If anyone is considering moving their domains to Aletiahosting.com, my advice to you is to make sure that you really, really need all their server space and monthly transfer, because it may end up costing you a lot more in aggravation than the $10/month that Aletia charges.
