Are there any australian hosting companies which are pretty good in support and products for hosting and reselling.

I am looking for something in australia...

Can't remember properly but i think terra-bytes is. I don't know much about them tho.

There shouldn't really be any country boundaries these days tho. Just find a company that will offer what you want and provide responsive service. This opens you up to more options. I've found a lot of hosts in Australia charge an arm and a leg.

You'll find www.aussiehosts.com to be an excellent choice.

Well....

Depends what type of Aussie web host your are after. If you would like your Aussie Web Host to be toally Aussie (that is, servers etc are located in Australia) expect to pay more. (Blame Tel$tra)

Or just want an Aussie business that is owned by Aussies and it doesn't matter where the servers are....

Ones I know of and have used/are using are:

AVS Network (http://www.avs.net.au/) <-- on the expensive side, from A$30 per month - but you get good performance and support.

Myacen Network (http://www.myacen.com/) My current webhost, they are very good, and "cheap" A$50 per year for their basic service.

Why did I choose AVS? Australia based & I could pay by direct debit.

Went with Myacen because they are more affordable (and I could pay via direct debit), however as you can see I also recommend AVS Network.

Some quick advantages/disadvantages of both:

Myacen:
* IB3 is banned, and similar cgi based forums (not all though)
* CGI scripts can only be in the cgi-bin
* More Affordable for me
* Good Support
AVS Network:
* Can have CGI scripts *anywhere* on their server
* No banned scripts (afaik)
* Cost more, but what you get is worth it.
* Good Support

good luck mate,

Tera-byte is canadian, and we are Australian

well there you go :) MyAcen have a good reputation but I doubt if their servers are in Australia.

Here are a few aussie run or based hosts for you to choose from apart from whats already been provided....

Akashik (http://www.akashik.net)

Havent heard any complaints myself regarding Akashik, and i know he has a .com.au domain for hosting aimed at the local market...due to seeing his ad in APC Magazine one issue.

Server101 (http://www.server101.com)

Ozhosting (http://www.ozhosting.com.au)

Ilisys (http://www.ilisys.com.au)

Onmyweb (http://www.onmyweb.net)

WebHost Australia (http://www.webhost.com.au)

WebHost Australia are run by the same people that run Dedicated Servers Australia (http://www.dedicatedservers.com.au) and they are co-locating their servers with Davnet (http://www.davnet.com.au) in their Brisbane datacenter.

WebCentral (http://www.webcentral.com.au)

They are another aussie based and operated host.

Hope this helps you a bit....

I think webwombat is the search engine purely for aussies businesses. Have a search on that. I believe companies have to have an ABN to get listed so it should give you a good start.

Not quite... :-)

We can actually host on Aussie soil as cost effectively as offshore, but trial and error has taught us that it takes a certain type of client to do so.

Why the insistence on an aussie host?

Not sure how Australian you want it to be in terms of servers located in Australia or just the business, but I'd recommend Akashik. Support is excellent, certainly the best I've come across in a host, pricing is decent and they certainly care about their customers and make sure that they're happy. As far as I'm aware, servers are co-located on the US east-coast.

I've got a couple of domains hosted with Ilisys.com.au. Their pricing is good, they are based in Australia and their support team is quick and helpful.

Wow a blast from the past, it would be helpful if you posted these domains you host with them. Also, in this amount of time I think the user would have found something :D

I would say an Australian host would be great for support purposes. You can't use a toll-free number for a US host and get it free when phoning from Australia.

We are an Australian host yet our servers are at Rackspace in Texas. Clients get good reliability being on that network and also get local support. Sure, a server in AU would be slightly faster but for the sake of a few milliseconds and a big cash saving, hosting on a US server is a good choice. Works well for us - our biggest client base is the US with Australia number 2.

That's not true, fastservers is based in the states but I called them a number of times on their aussie 1800 number.

Hmm, I got an email about a host a while back (was supposed to go to some conference, but never did) -- i'll see if I can find it - they sounded quite reputable...

I know quite a few australian hosts actually have their servers based in the US - (thats the descision I had to make), and the fees for hosting in australia are HUGE - I could get a fairly good colo deal here in S.A. but really, it's the line rentals that will kill it! damm telstra...

anyway, just expect to pay quite a bit extra for local stuff, and the speed isn't going to be that great elsewhere... :)
