So you offer a 30-Day NO Payment/Money-Back Guarantee?
perpetual 02-23-2002, 01:56 AM well, i guess that what you can call it :)

Interesting thought... Seems it would better to offer an account for 30-Day trial period and at the end of the trial period - charge them each month going forward thus requiring the payment information until they cancel if that is what they decide to do. As they cancel after the 30-Day Trial period, they would not be entitled to a refund of those charges if they were to cancel which depending on how soon they cancel after 30-days could allow you to recoup the costs of that trial period.
That way, you wouldn't have to worry about hounding them for their credit card information which could then remind lead them to cancel the service.
perpetual 02-23-2002, 02:39 AM The 'no credit card offer' is to give customers the piece of mind, knowing that they definitely will not be charged at all. Like we said - no risk.
Well, here is a prime example of what I mean by risk

okay, lets say 10 people sign up for this..
Each one uses 20 GB of bandwidth - thats 200GB of bandwidth for those math whizes out there ;)
But lets say you only purchase 100GB a month ...
You would now be in the hole for 100GB of bandwidth, all because you took no credit card.
Either you have to limit this to certain acounts ... or I see financial trouble in your future real soon.
AOL offers a 45 day free trial, but you still need a credit card to sign up. People don't need a "peace of mind" with their credit cards, otherwise tons of business would do it. Hosting is predominatly paid in credit card, its the business - any hosting client would probably expect to already give you their card, so why not take it at the beginning?
perpetual 02-23-2002, 04:05 AM We are confident that our quality of service will keep our customers satisfied. We do not oversell our services and we monitor all accounts for illegal activities that may jeapordise the continuation of our services to our customers.
Thanks for the input tho, xnet. :)
As a final note.. HURRY.. this offer may not last long and server space is already becoming scarse.
okay, i hope it works for you :)
ToastyX 02-23-2002, 04:46 AM Be careful. An offer like that can be abused.
perpetual 02-23-2002, 07:08 AM Thanks. Apart from people signing up just to see if it really works, we have had minimal abuse. We have been running this for a month already.

I agree with what one of the other WHT members stated.... hosting services is a type of service where customers are ready provide payment information as they sign up for an account and I am sure their confidence in the quality of their services will keep their customers satisfied.
However and by the nature of your offering and the verbage to HURRY that it may not last long.... comes across as one to rack up on your number of clients quickly which is ideal for any company, BUT once the offer ends and/or your server is filled up. Will your 30-Day Trial - No Credit Card Offer then turn to requiring one so you purchase another server to host those clients?
Incognito 02-24-2002, 01:50 AM Can you say abuse magnet?
The only reason you haven't had problems is the lack of publicity to this point. You will quickly rise to the top of every SPAMMERS list as they widely circulate host names to be used, abused, and dumped. You will have no recourse, because you will not even have the correct name of the "customer."
I can only warn you that the dangers and risks will far exceed the benefits once the word gets around. People will come, knowing they can host anonymously, violate all your TOS's and AUP's and do it all without recourse. If the only risk was just customers not staying more of us would do this. But that is the most insignificant risk. The kind of abusers you will attract can destroy your business by the costs involved, by the damage to your reputation, and even getting your IP's blocked by many. Furthermore, you may find yourself unable to get hosted and/or colocated.
I applaud your confidence and willingness to prove yourself, but this it not the way.

No, but we need to maintain a good customer to staff to server resources ratio so as to maintain our level of customer service.
Can you say abuse magnet?
customers must have a valid domain name and their domain registrations are verified before we set up their account. I agree that there is a possibility of abuse and we will take every measure to ensure that this will not occur. This is a way to introduce us to the market and the current response we have received have been great. This sort of offer will obviously not last long because the longer it runs for the larger the risk of abuse. We will be discontinuing this once we have reached the market penetration level we aimed for ( or earlier due to abusive circumstances)
Thanks for everyone's concerns. Your constructive inputs have been well received.
