Any experience with mydomain.com? A completely free service that let's you totally manage your domains, including pointing or redirecting them anywhere. Redirect can be either cloaked or uncloaked.

I've been looking for a good low-cost host for a half dozen or so personal websites, nothing commercial or very resource-demanding, and it looks like mydomains.com might be a part of the solution. Anybody have any comments or experience with this service?

(Any recommendations on hosts also appreciated.)

For it's price (free), I am more than pleased with MyDomains.com. I use it to point a domain to a subdirectory on my site. It has been pretty reliable.

What kind of things are you looking for in a host?

They're great. I've used them for just over a year now. They we down for about 2 days last month I think it was, but otherwise they've always been excellent.

You can use them to aim anything@yourdomain.com to any email address so if you sign up for something, its easy to use blah@yourdomain.com, click the verify link in the emiail they send, then if the start to send spam, you can just direct it to any email address or bounce it with ease :D

Glad to hear you like mydomain. Does using them for redirect slow things down noticably? Does it change the look of the page?

What am I looking for in a host? Well, multiple domains was factor #1, but if mydomain really works, then that makes it a whole lot simpler.

50-200 MB
1-5 GB
dedicated IP
anon FTP
mailing lists
24/7 reasonably quick response, friendly support
custom 404 would be nice
seamless upgrading if/when
LOW cost

I've found several that look good for 5 or less, even 2.50, so far, but haven't made a decision. If I can really rely on mydomain, tho, I probably have no need to keep looking. Multiple domain hosting was definitely the sticky wicket.
Thanks for your help.

Mester - thx for the feedback. I'm starting to feel really good about mydomain! tho the 2 days down is a bit disconcerting! I trust that happens hardly ever?

The use of the email for spam mgt it a good idea, but I'm not sure what you mean about 'click the verify link'? Is this something in the senders header or do you mean a service with mydomain?
