UPDATE: Problem cleared up, wasn't that serious in first place.

Starting at 18:12 EST we saw a dramatic increase in packet loss, like 30% .... this is both in and out from our server. Things were nearly perfect prior to that...

We confirmed this from two locations (Dallas and San Jose area). Anyone else?

At this point, I already moved our users off the server at the site... I think we will just wait this out. But if anyone else is experiencing problems, consider this confirmation.

As of 19:03 EST, still happening...

Hey can you maybe email us and tell us that this is happening instead of posting here drop us a line so we can trouble shot it.

Because I wasn't even certain where it was at.... it may have only been "near" you... both my remote monitoring sites are pretty far west of your site.

Althought the fact that packets were being lost going OUT is a pretty big clue it might be near you...

As of 19:05 it cleared up (right when you posted here).

The actual packet loss was more like 30% average over the timeperiod... this was most accuratly measured from affordablecolo.com site.

I mostly posted here to see if I could get confirmation of the problem... "less than total failures" are always a pain.

Nothing to see here, move along...

Stephen,

I have found pingplotter (http://www.pingplotter.com) to be very usefull to asnwer this kind of question. You will be able to tell at which hop(s) the problems start to occur.

But if you say that your result is the same from two different locations, it's kind of hard to think that the problems is somewhere "far" (in therms of hop numbers) away from the data center.

cheers,

Reason for the latency

Description : At approximately 6:15 EST, we began experiencing latency over our Level3 transit connection. We have traced this to a Denial-of-service attack on one of our customers. We have contacted Level3, and the attack has been blocked. Users would have experienced packet loss and increased latency while the attack was active.
