View Full Version : People Pics
MilkMan 02-22-2002, 05:19 PM Whats with the pics of people of websites these days? I mean I could understand if they were of the people who worked there but we're talking stock photos. At first it was a new thing, then a novelty, now it's everywhere.
I'm sure you've seen them.
Guy with his arms crossed and a big smile.
Girl looking iquizically(sp?)
Shots of a girl from above with her looking up.
Paul-UKWSD 02-22-2002, 06:39 PM I know what you mean; it's mainly American hosts that adopt this style.
bitserve 02-22-2002, 06:45 PM My friend who is a professionally trained graphic designer says that it's psychology.
Basically people relate to pictures of people. People don't relate to pictures of computers. Pictures of attractive, smiling people, make you feel cozy.
Kamika_Z 02-22-2002, 06:47 PM It's this little company called PhotoCD... I hate those pictures, like you said, they're all over the place.

Site with pictures of attractive, smiling people causes my "you have just entered La-La Land" alert to go off.
Rather than getting a "warm and fuzzy" feeling... I start asking myself the following questions:
Who are these smiling dolts anyway?
Victims of recently preformed prefontal lobotomies, perhaps?
Nah... they got to be on drugs...
Hmmm.. What KINDS of drugs did they injest to make them smile THAT much?
And why didn't they bring enough drugs for EVERYONE to sample?

LOL!
You're obviously not the average customer.
The average customer is like a sheep. Well they're not thinking much about what they're doing. Whether they are capable of thinking, who knows.
I guess what i'm saying, is that the average customer is in lala land.
technoart 02-22-2002, 10:23 PM Re: the "People Thing"...
I'm reminded of one of GM's old "marketing things":
General Motors: People building cars, for people.
Wow! What a novel concept!
People building cars for people.
For years after that, I worried that perhaps there was more to this than "they" were telling us... or wanted us to know!
Since Ford didn't advertise specifically that they were "people building cars for people", I suspected that perhaps, maybe... the real truth was:
Ford: Dolphins building cars, for bumblebees!
Henceforth, after careful consideration, I decided to always deal, only with companies that specifically state or imply that they are:
People offering a product, offered (for sale) to people.
I'm proud to say, in the past few years, I have never bought a product from a company not operated by people! And I'd never even consider being part of any weird, twisted alternatives, such as:
1) Rocks offering Web site hosting to Aliens
2) Buildings offering dedicated servers to birds
3) Food products offering server co-location to insects
bitserve 02-23-2002, 12:04 AM You made me laugh out loud.
Thank you. :)
haha...
*****'s new slogan:
People screwing over people - *****
lol
nothing is better than starting a day with a laugh. You just made my day today!
:o)
Hey It's Me 02-23-2002, 10:14 PM I think it displays a lack of creativity to throw "people photos" on a site.

looking at all of the hosting sites, I was starting to wonder where I could get a picture of a person looking up just so I can fit in
