Hi,

If there is anyone here who is considering using can-host networks to host a dedicated server or virtual server i would have to say go for it!. I am not even one of there customers and the owner Felix C.Courtemanche has helped me setup my dedicated server with php4 and a few other little goodies. I was about to rip my hair hair out and he saved my nice blonde locks (=.

I've had a similar experience with Mr. Courtemanche, and fully agree with Technics on his recommendation. As far as customer support goes, you can't go wrong with Felix!

Felix, is always helpful. He keeps proving so many people wrong. People who are young can always do a better job of anything ;)

I'm not up on the history of this - and have no opinions either way - but I see this on diff't boards and feel some odd obligation (could be a gas bubble too) to say something. Proof by numbers isn't really proof. I'm guessing (too lazy to search) that etLux has some problem with can-host, one or even more instances to the positive doesn't discount the potential validity of anything he/she may say. No need to rag on the guy for expressing a negative opinion - any host will have those who swear they are run by the anti-christ and those who think they are the savior. Barring blatant lying, he has every right to express negative opinions and examples - just as you convey your positive experience.

None of us should be so quick to kick someone for expressing a bad experience or opinion just because it isn't our opinion/experience.

Just my .02..again, I have no opinion on either etLux or can-host as I've never worked/talked with either, although it sounds as if can-host has been extremely helpful and customers may expect the same.

EtLux and Felix -- along with others -- were involved in a long thread about whether someone's age is relevant to their ability to provide good service as a host (or more generally, but that was the main focus of the discussion). The horse has been beaten, and I hope this thread doesn't revive that discussion.

Me too. A good rant about nothing really does wonders sometimes. I often yell at the neighbor's dog for things my pet fish does. :)

By the way, I agree, Felix is most helpful. More than Super Man. Definite webjedi.

*stares at chicken's fish and backs away, very very slowly..*

*ahem* I went to can-host.com, and it looks nice! *_* Does can-host offer telnet or SSH? If not, is there an easy way to set up and edit chron stuff?

Chron stuff?

Think she meant chmod :)

I think she meant cron stuff.

A crontab file contains instructions to the cron daemon of the general form: ``run this command at this time on this date''. Each user has their own crontab, and commands in any given crontab will be executed as the user who owns the crontab.

yeah, I meant cron. I can do chmod from WS FTP.

however, I haven't done any cron work yet... So I didn't follow you, energy. Are you saying that's how cron stuff (love my technical vocabulary? :) ) works all the time, or with can-host? And how do you get to the crontab to make one or edit one?

That's how it works everywhere. Really though, there has to be a reason to use it.

For example: Server rotates logs, or checks for .mp3 files and then deletes them, etc.

You'll have to ask the individual host is they allow them, and how often you can have it do whatever you're doing. It is often allowed more as a case-by-case basis.

Lol, this thread is 4 years old ;)

Can-host is either out of business, working from a new name, or has been sold. Unless this is them at: http://canhost.com/ ?

Yes I did a search to find a thread that had existing clients with them.. I thought they might know :-)
