It's my turn now, and let them stop this sh*t!
Lonny 02-22-2002, 04:23 AM excellent branding idea if you ask me.. expensive but brilliant.
You can say many things about their service, but their marketing department is amazing.

As much as I hate to say this, I would have to agree.
that's still a lot of money .... may be a good marketing idea, but how many people watching a car flying by a 200 miles per hour are going to see their logo? I probably would only see a blur of colors...
One Web 02-22-2002, 02:23 PM And, like Nascar, ***** is ever vigilant regarding security and safety issues. ***** was one of the few Internet firms that completely patched its servers against Code Red in 2001, thus saving its clients most of the headaches of that worm.
It seems like they mention Code Red on all their press releases.
Incognito 02-22-2002, 02:24 PM Of course a lot depends on your customer and the car you are advertising on, but NASCAR can be very effective advertising. The fans are quite loyal. They see the ad up to 500 times during a race. The ad gets seen during the entire race on TV. And, the announcers are trained to always include the sponsors name when they mention the car. As much as I hate to think it, CI could pick up another additional group of customers if they promote it so that they become "the official web host of NASCAR" or something similar.
My experience comes from being with a company that signed up with Dale Earnhardt before he hit it big and sponsored him for several years very early in his career.
Of course, sponsoring in NASCAR doesn't come cheap....maybe Chris will spend all his money and shut down....just dreaming....damn..I woke up.
cbaker17 02-22-2002, 03:25 PM Ha amazing marketing i dont think so, ***** runs some of the most ineffective and just plain stupid marketing campaigns ive ever seen.
I could throw a million dollars at nascar and plaster a car with monkeys and you better bet people are going to be talking about it the next day, but you think their going out to buy a monkey.
Get real ***** is a company who throws lots of money at ineffective advertising and 0 where it counts, its own company and customers.
Are people talking about *****? Yes... But people are also talking about Enron...
Funny, Yes... Disgusting, HELL YES...

Im just wondering how you know they are ineffective marketing campaigns? I dont see how anyone would know except top level people at the company.
Incognito 02-22-2002, 10:03 PM I would like to have as ineffective advertising and promotion as theirs. I know it is very costly, but they do add large numbers of customers. With their churn rate you must.
I agree, they probably will be getting some more customers with this..
but do you think they'll make enough money back from the new clients to cover the expenses -- if you don't make more money off of an advertisement, then it failed - simple as that.
What if their car crashes in each race its in .... that could become a very expensive advertising campaign...
TimPD 02-22-2002, 10:15 PM By the way ***** has been caught misleading people like they say they host McDonalds and all those other companines from a Tracert it is a lie.
I'm disliking ***** more and more...
I wonder if I could make anything off of ihate*****talk.com ?? :D

Then they will do what they do best. Overcharge people's credit cards!
UNIXIELHOST 02-22-2002, 10:24 PM Keep ranting! The more we rant, the more they will suffer, they need to deserve it!
xnet, go ahead and I will be honored to support it :D

I dont think this thread is a question of character :D. We all know the true *****. But I honestly think this might do well for them. There is alot of money tied up in Nascar and Sponsorships. If by some chance the car they sponsor would happen to win and add to that a big race like Daytona or one of the other super speedway's, the effectiveness of such advertisement would be phenomal. Highlights on National TV, front page of the Sports section, the list goes on and on. Heck I would be the least bit surprised to see television ads coming out from these guys.
By chance does anyone know who the driver is?? I am not a Nascar fan so I dont know what numbers go with what drivers, but I thought I remembered Bill Elliot driving #94 way back when I was younger??
Personally I agree they spend entirely too much money on ads and not enough on their customers and service.
What's next??? Jay Leno???
UNIXIELHOST 02-22-2002, 10:31 PM I am attaching the snapshot of the #94 driver
Funny, I dont see name "*****" listed
Maybe other LIE???
Gurudev 02-22-2002, 11:10 PM but you think their going out to buy a monkey.
There are always enough people that go out and buy any monkey. You just have to know who your monkey is and how to make the monkey buy your stuff. That is the difference between marketing people and smart people. Marketing people are after one thing, marketing. They don't care if you are monkey. I am not saying that it is good, just answering your question.
With regards to the sponsorship it could be good or bad. If one wants to build a brand to a national audience, this is how it is done. It costs a lot of money and hence brand building is not cheap and everyone can't build a brand name company.

Maybe they are the "unknown" in that list?? :D
BTW thanks for posting this. I dont know who he is but like I said I am not a racing fan :D
Yeah, I'm not a racing fan also... I still don't think they'll do too well off it... I mean, how large of a percent of people watching the race will actually know what web hosting is? Or any sport at that, not just racing...
I think they could have done a lot better with an ad on TechTV.
MarcD 02-23-2002, 03:10 AM as a nascar fan i highly doubt ***** is "sponsoring a team"
they may be getting a sponsorship position but they are not sponsoring a team
to sponsor a team for a full year schedule the costs start at 8 million
and i highly doubt that is something they would get into
they are probably donating some money or doing somethign in return for a small logo somewhere on the car but as far as sponsoring an entire team/car i doubt it
and if they have that kind of money for advertising where were the superbowl commercials ?
agreed - they probably purchased a small logo to be thrown on it somewhere.
which by the way makes it entirely useless.
