View Full Version : Overture
joephill 01-30-2005, 05:23 PM Hey so I was thinking of advertising with Overture so I signed up and deposited 30 bucks which is the minimum
I never added any keyword and didnt use the service.. after my total failure with Adwords I decided no to use overture
so I sent an email to overture and asked them to refund the money
they simply closed my account and said my money is non refundable
now this left me really bad these guys have no ethics and I am not letting them get away with the 30 bucks..
I am thinking of doing a chargeback they didnt deliver the service and I have money at them..
I think that would be the right thing to do.. I am an honest person and I just hate these type of companys that try to rip
every cent...
plus even If I use the money there when my balance gets lower than 5 they will charge me 600 BUCKS!!!!
doublej 01-30-2005, 05:48 PM i say do the chargeback. They didn't deliver the service you paid for and you never asked your account to be closed. You just asked for a refund.

OK i a m falmiliar with overture, if i were you i would switch your account profile so that there is a budget option is on so they cant take more money out. Add on the most expnsive keyword of all time "hosting" and then let them approve you and they will send you customer PLUS their system will just put your acount in the negative and you just cancel your credit card so at least you got your 30 bucks worth.
joephill 01-30-2005, 06:10 PM I have the budget turned on but tell you what they automtically charge your account 600 bucks if the balance is lower than 5.
I will do a chargeback and I really dont care cause I know I am right and I doing nothing wrong I just wont let them get away with this..
Google is much more fair and honest
Overture SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had them and thought they were awesome, but every visitor we ever received from them never left the homepage. The ate the money we originally deposited and then decided to pull more off of our Credit card... REDICULOUS! SCAM!
netpet 01-30-2005, 08:08 PM Overture is a waste of time and money. I sugned up with them some time ago, I added $50 to the account and added the keywords. They verified the account and keywords on the last day of the month and then took $20 from my account because of a $20 min monthly spend!
They refused to refund my money, directing me to read the TOS.
Then the traffic they did send was useless, it was not for a hosting site. All traffic that came from them never left the entry page.
TheDedicatedReview 01-30-2005, 09:10 PM I tried to signup on overture today through the new msn search and it kept hanging on the final page. Good thing it never went through after reading this.
kewlu 01-30-2005, 09:48 PM We also use overture and I believe the conversion ratio from overture is much lower than any other search engine we advertise our services on.
dmghosts 01-30-2005, 10:04 PM We tried overture, kanoodle and other 2nd rate search engines... didn't work. :(
Amish_Geek 01-30-2005, 10:07 PM I actually have had very good success with overture. But not for web hosting. These are for other sites where I am #1 with a $0.30-0.50 bid
WebDomain.com 02-05-2005, 12:36 PM OVERTURE SUCKS!!!
Sorry, i am not used to be so extrem, but i have to say this.
We reactivated lately our damn old Overture account. Nobody here was remembering why we didn't use it anymore.
We setted up a budget limit of $5 with an auto refill of $30.
We wrote 6 listing advertisings and submited them to be review on 21th of January. The first refill was $50. On the 23th, we received a mail which was stating that $20 were charged because of non-activity of the account during the last 30 days.... OK, but when i checked the account only $17 were present into the Money overview. AND above all, none of our listing was already activated.... FUNNY. I submited a Trouble Ticket and i have to say that the answer of Carol Rockman was more than Friendly. Even if she never spoke about the missing $13. She was saying that they experienced a problem with their API and the $20 will be refunded within 2-3 days. (We are still waiting the money though, 10 days later.). Our listings were reviewed and activated on the 2nd of February. I was outside the office till today, and nobody else is abilited to read my mails. What was my surprise today when i checked my Box. Since yesterday, our Overture account was automaticly refilled 8 Times, without my consent, with the auto-budget limit ON and setted up with $5 dollars/day. What a SCAM. I already called my bank to refuse all payments requested by OVERTURE. As, we are not playing the same game as these persons, i replied directly to Carol Rockman and opened a Trouble Ticket on their website. In this message, i am requesting the refund of all my money and the cancellation of our account. (Even if we have to loose this $50 we paid for registration.).... Wait and see, but i won't wait 30 days before the refund. I let them until Tuesday and then i will engage a chargeback with our bank.....
Now, we all know here why we stopped to use Overture.
I will update this thread.
dataport 02-05-2005, 06:25 PM Hmm.. why use overture in the first place?
universal2001 02-05-2005, 07:23 PM For those who say Overture sucks because it doesnt convert.. How much are you spending??
If your budget is less than $2000/mo you won't get any decent results.
WebDomain.com 02-05-2005, 08:17 PM Not more than $200 a month. The goal isn't to be overall in the search results, as someone said, few peoples care about the "sponsored" results. It was just to introduce our target into some category (key words) where it was not yet referenced by Search Engines.
But i have to say that between $200 a month (as we defined into the Auto-Budget) and $240 a day (as Overture decided to bill us) there is a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEE difference.
For me, this way of acting is really crappy and proove that regardless how big is your company, without professionnal counscience, the Big ones can be worst as the small ones.
In our case, i really disaproove the way Overture took the money, even if the auto-budget which is usually limiting such behavior was setted on. BUT there is something above this more unusual. It seems that OVERTURE do not use an anti-spam system. We were tracking all links with a special script. And what i saw make me really wondering if all the traffic from OVERTURE was real?
Some clicks, that were billed 4 times, were apparently from the same person. And this happened almost 5 times with different referrals. One of them was 2 times the same and the 3 others were 3 times. What a waste of money....
No, i have only one suggestion for the small-mid entrepreneur.... STAY AWAY FROM OVERTURE !!!
kewlu 02-05-2005, 09:49 PM I just pulled the ad that we have on overture which we spend close to $5000 a month on and have 0 effect on our overall signup on daily basis...... what a waste...
icecreams 02-05-2005, 09:52 PM It all depends on what you're really selling but as for us I couldn't agree more that Overture, is a waste of money!
I used them in the past for my silver jewelry and sunglass sites and the ROI is just terrible.
I even complained about the fraudulent clicks but if fell upon deaf ears. Maybe it was because I wasn't a heavy hitter but when you spent $100 bucks a month only to make $30 back in sales for the seven consecutive months then it's time to cut your loses move on.
joephill sorry but I do remember them saying the initial deposit was non refundable though.:(
amusive.com 02-06-2005, 04:45 AM A $30 initial deposit is non-refundable
Of course you shouldn't get your $30 back, you agreed you lose any claim to it when you signed up.
