Cheech Wiz 01-30-2005, 11:28 PM I have a question... I'm getting estimates to do this ranging from US$50 to US$750.
Can anyone give me a guess-timate on the time involved and the hours involved? One person quoted 10 hours. When the fellow set the server up about 14 months ago it was a quick job of a couple of hours (and I'm not convinced the person was really knowledgable as a number of issues arose which had to be 'fixed').
I'm not adverse to paying someone US$200 to US$500 if they're professionals (i.e.: web site and a history w/references) because I want it done right and, of course, there is the security issue of handing someone my server root access. What I don't want is someone not experienced in FreeBSD and ending up with problems, not to mention a trial and error process.
BTW - I guess I could get an program to interface with AIM (I'm a Mac person 'at home' - I don't know if iSight will interface as I've never really used it. And I'm more for phone calls {I do have Skype but don't keep it on, but I don't mind calling someone on a landline and paying for the call either}).
linuxissues 01-30-2005, 11:35 PM I can set it up for you.
Thanks
uidzero 01-31-2005, 10:41 AM I can do this for you within two hours. Since it's been awhile since I posted on here, I'll do it for 100.00 even. I've done work for a few people on here. I can give you references if you need it.
Contact me if you are interested.

Michael Are you in the US? If so, how about PMing or e-mailing me a phone number.
One note: This is a production server so I'll have to schedule it for (hopefully) a weekend because (obviously) the server will have to go offline. My forums are relatively active during the week and I also look at it from a $ per hour revenue loss when the server is down.
One thing I thought of - Someone mentioned something about 'streightening out the ports tree'.
The fellow who set up the server was doing a lot of trial and error so... And he set it up much different than my previous server (a 'virtual server from Verio) - paths and such are not what I was used to (and not like I have them set up on my Mac and my PC).
As I said, I don't mind paying a bit (I did think US$750 was quite a bit much), but I want someone who knows FreeBSD without guessing.
I will say I want someone that I can come back to for tweaking if necessary or if I have problems.
EDIT ADD: I'm not worried about php 5 - the 'stable release' version will be fine.
uidzero 02-01-2005, 10:06 AM I enjoyed the talk yesterday, looking forward to helping you out.
If you need anything sooner, please feel free to call me or e-mail me.
