View Full Version : What does a moderator do? SERIOUSLY!
ProSam 02-21-2002, 02:07 PM I have a general idea of what they are supposed to do but if Chicken or Teck or any other WHT mod can help me out it will be most appreciated.
I'm starting a Patiots Fan forum. This way I can tell interested parties what they need to do.
Thanks,
Sam
Hmmm, I guess in short, we take care of anything that is against the forum rules.
WoodShedd 02-21-2002, 02:13 PM act like an of duty police officer.
Have fun with everyone else while maintaing a sense of authority.
A Moderator also enforces the forum rules, and as in a real life meeting or forum, acts as an unbiased dude who keeps things real.

I run a forum at http://www.fan-studio.com
Moderators should be a role model for the members, keep the peace, and more importantly, keep the discussions going if your forums aren't doing too well at a point.
I've also been a moderator myself at: aol!... .. yeah that was one long year.
I was a moderator of Entertainment Asylum Teens (which is now closed) Forums. If you think modding a forum like this might be hard - try controlling 4000 teenagers posting a day about how "Justin from N'Sync could not be dating Britney Spears! He was meant for me!" ... i just got a headache thinking about it again.
Main thing is to choose responsible moderators. Don't choose them off of who has the most posts.

ProSam 02-21-2002, 08:07 PM This is some good stuff.
Thanks for the info guys.;)
good luck w/ your forums :)
raine 02-22-2002, 03:42 PM I run a forum at community.eldaronline.com
Remember to not overmoderate a board either as that may result in some backlash from the users... most people don't like their messages edited, so make sure to do that only on the ones that really do offend someone or break the rules... don't moderate people just to moderate people...

Good input. I would if someone did that to me.
ProSam 02-22-2002, 05:22 PM BTW. If you want to see a previewgo to:

MDJ2000 02-22-2002, 06:19 PM Greets from Boston. Very nice looking forum. That was by far the best superbowl I've seen in my 29 years, but then I may be just a tad biased. ;) I'm sure it's going to be a very popular forum.
Chicken 02-23-2002, 01:43 PM I think everyone covered it pretty much. I just try to keep the discussions flowing in a directed, positive manner, which is sometimes not entirely possible, but that's the aim. Remove posts that violate the guidelines set forth by the owener of the forum, and contact users who haven't read the guidelines they agreed to upon signing up.
Above all, I just try to enjoy myself. I didn't join this forum to be a moderator of it, that just happened, so my prime reason for coming here is the same as mostly everyone else's.

XTStrike 02-24-2002, 05:47 AM Hi all - since my job has become a little more involved I tend not to get as long here as I used to so you probably dont notice me very often.
But as a mod the tasks I try to carry out are: moving mosts, throwing posts, replying to posts I have a personal interest in and generally trying to stay on the good side of the members whilst trying to be some sort of authority figure. (this can be difficult) :D
