Hi

This is what I need:

* 200 mb
* About 10 gb transfer / month and possibility to upgrade to a better account with more bandwidth
* PHP and MySQL
* About $15-20 / month or below (I'm 16, my budget is limited)

Are those demands reasonable?

Both gearhost and tera-byte seems to be good. It's possible to host multiple full domains at gearhost, tera-byte doesn't offer that. But on the other hand, tera-byte supports SSH, gearhost doesn't. Which one should I choose? Why? Are there any better alternatives out there?

Thanks

Hi,

I dont have experience with tera-byte's shared hosting but their dedicated hosting definately kicks major donkey. And if their customer support is as good as its for their dedicated boxes then you can go with thier shared hosting. I know a friend of mine who hosts his Tekken site on a tera-byte shared account so far he hasn't complained ;)

Hope this helps, eitherways both are good hosts in my opinion.

Regards,
Asher.

What's the Tekken site, if you don't mind? :D

Good guess ;)

If you were referring to tekkenzaibatsu.com, I would be ready to hop aboard.

The guy who runs that site went through a lot of hosts but unfortunately he doesn't answer email so I can't get his advice

After reading recent posts about Gearhost, I would stay away from them and go for Tera-Byte. Try doing a search and you'll see what I mean.

I think that aletia.com also support multiple domain hosting and SSH.
I never used them, so I can't say how good their are.

Gearhost only does Windows hosting, right? Just my opinion, but if you are looking for PHP and MySQL, I'd go with a UNIX host. In that case, you might prefer tera-byte, but I have no idea if they're UNIX or not.

Yep, for the moment Gearhost is only Windows. They will eventually add unix hosting, but I wouldn't count on it being soon...

Thanks guys

Alas, this is hard.

Okey, I think that gearhost is out of the question now.
Reason: The thing with their website and MT. Only weekly backups? They also seem to say "next week" alot but when next week comes nothing happens?

Aletia: They _were_ good?

Tera-byte: Still an option. But according to some people their shared servers are easily overloaded. Comments? Also, they don't support cron jobs.

Hostculture: Looks really good. They've got everything I need. Support is friendly and answered to my mails within 30 min. Sites hosted on their servers load quickly even though I'm in Sweden.

I'll make an another post when I've made up my mind.. ;-)

Opinion of Tera-Byte: overloaded servers, slower speeds on shared hosting (probably due to everyone on the overloaded server sharing the same pipe). Don't expect to be able to use much resources and CPU before they send you warnings and disable your account...there's only so much that you can use on an overloaded server. I won't ever be using them again.

Opinion of Aletia: Much better than TeraByte in my opinion. Site load times were much improved. I can easily check the status of any of their servers. Most have good load averages, and not much downtime. Lured by great tech support, which has pretty much gone down the drain. They seem to be on top of the servers though, and post frequent updates.

Opinion of GearHost: He's a good salesman. He tells the customers what they want to hear. Kind of reminds me of the car salesman I talked to recently. So that leaves us with a lot of "soon" and "next week" statements that go unfulfilled, with another feel-good reason of course. But at least they're customer oriented (with a phone number to talk to live people!).
Their plans are awesome, and I think they have a lot of potential.
Don't hold your breath on the Linux plans though. They'll come when they're ready, not when they say they'll be ready.

Just to defend a little on GearHost our Linux plans are out we just haven't released the date yet because of some PR stuff and iControl. As soon as they are available people will start posting. I'm sorry for some of the over due dates but nothing has been announced for sure just yet. Just hold tight, when they are released it will be much better that we took the time rather then just setting up Linux and throwing customers on ... right?

Just my 2¢.

In addition we just opened our new second office in Denver so we're a little under the gun but rest assured the Linux servers will be up ... why are we they only company getting 'dogged', if you will for not having Linux ... makes you wonder ;).

I can't speak for everyone, but here's how I see it.

I have no idea how new of a business you are, but you're relatively new to WHT, as am I.

You excited a lot of people with your inexpensive web hosting plans, but unfortunately (well for you) a lot of customers like hosting on UNIX, and so then they said, "Too bad it's only Windows."

Well, someone was smart enough to ask if you would be getting UNIX hosting, and you said "shortly". So people waited. And they're getting impatient.

I've been referring people to you that were looking for windows hosting. Once you start offering UNIX hosting, you'll be the competition, so I'm not excited. Take your time. :)
