View Full Version : zoomdomains incorrectly sees me as disallowing cookies
Cyril91 01-27-2005, 10:23 PM Hi all
I have numerous domain names registered at zoomdomains (aka registrarpdq)
but every time I go to that site (recently), even to some page like
zoomdomains NewAccount.asp
I get redirected to
global cookieinfo.asp?err=100
which says
Note: This site uses third party cookies.
Please turn cookies on to continue
OK, I clear the cache and cookies and set security to medium (IE), exit and start again. Same problem. Same with IE6.0 on XP and 5.5 on 98 (2 machines sharing the same internet connection), same with Mozilla firefox, same with Mozilla 0.9. I also disabled McAfee (virus and firewall), no effect. The dialup connection does not use a proxy.
Note that
invisiondomains
whose url resolves to the same IP as zoomdomains and registrarpdq does NOT exhibit this problem, although it appears to be a clone with a different skin.
What look like resellers
my-account-manager
do not exhibit this problem.
What can possibly be going on?
Can someone with the appropriate tools have a look at zoomdomains.com and see what it is doing wrt cookie acceptance detection and redirection?
(yes, I have done the obvious and asked for help from zoomdomains, but no response as yet).
thanks for any help
S-Comm 01-27-2005, 11:20 PM I have the same problem. (WindowsME).. All settings are default though!
Techno 01-28-2005, 02:46 AM same here with namezoom and enom. has it been since the enom site redesign?
Divaqs 01-28-2005, 04:48 AM Hi Cyril91,
It appears that something is wrong with that particular PDQ account. I don't have the necessary tools available at home to drill down and find the problem, but as soon as I get into the office in the morning I will check into it.
I've seen a couple of past occurrences of this problem on PDQ sites when there was a problem with their account, which made it so that a needed cookie could not be created, which is needed to associate the web session to that particular PDQ site (err=100). In other words, it is not actually a browser problem but a problem with the PDQ site code being able to create the needed cookie due to missing data. I will be able to verify in the morning.
dmaven 01-28-2005, 09:37 AM Divaq you work for enom?
cool
Divaqs 01-28-2005, 01:39 PM I've found the problem....
PDQ accounts require a yearly renewal fee. When a PDQ account is allowed to expire the site is disabled by removing the ability for the needed cookies to be created to maintain a session for that particular PDQ site. That appears to be the case in this situation as well....
You can contact zoomdomains to see if they are planning on renewing their PDQ site, or look to a different PDQ site to maintain your domains.
In the future for problems, I'd recommend contacting eNom support via the eNom support center... since this forum isn't constantly monitored and you'd likely get a faster response through the support center.
eSology 01-28-2005, 01:47 PM Divaqs. That doesn't seem to solve the entire problem. Our PDQ site is not expired yet people have this issue from time to time. I and another PDQ owner have noticed these issues from time to time and they are not related to expired PDQ sites.

When I checked earlier the PDQ account was listed as being unpublished ('sign-up' versus 'my site' tabs), which occurs when a site has expired. I just checked again and you do seem to be right since the expiration isn't until March 2005
Hmm... I am going to check with the database team and see if they have an explanation.
There are different 'err' codes that mean different things. I will add it to my list to make those differing problems more clear (they all have some sort of relation to cookies used by the PDQ site).
I am not a developer that created the PDQ system, but I am one of the developers that works on it now. So, I am open to suggestions. One of my main focusses this past year has been trying to get more legible error/problem information to resellers and customers and to make things as stable as possible.
I hope I have been of help.
Divaqs 01-28-2005, 02:55 PM Okay, I'm now a bit red-faced. I've spent the last hour or so trying to figure out what was going on and just realized that I was confusing the zoomdomains.com account with acts837's account, which are different.
The zoomdomains.com PDQ account has expired. acts837's account hasn't expired.
Anyways, I've added to my "To Do" list making the PDQ cookie errors more clear then they are currently.

Zoomdomains is not responding to my emails, so I guess they are not intending to renew.
Until I started researching this problem, I was not aware that enom was the engine behind zoomdomains or registrarpdq or that I could go to enom for help... something the enom people should maybe think about.
Can you clarify a few things for me.
1. I, as a retail customer, can go to enom for help on issues of this sort? Correct?
2. I can MANAGE my domains through any enom reseller? Correct?
3. If I don't want to go back to zoomdomains, I can purchase new domains from any enom reseller and manage these in conjunction with my existing ones?
4. I have automatic credit card billing (renewal) with zoomdomains .. can I cancel that (a bit hard if I cannot get to the zoomdomains site without being redirected to the cookies page)
5. If zoomdomains no longer has a PDQ agreement, can I transfer to some other reseller without a huge fee (I have 50+ domains .. I don't want to transfer+renew each of these for a year.. too much money).
thanks for your help

You should always go to the reseller for support first. If you contact eNom without having made an attempt to contact the reseller for support they will direct you to do so first. If a reseller is not assisting you, I believe that eNom customer support will likely assist you. (Please note that I am a developer and not in customer support, so I am by no means an authority on this policy)
2. I can MANAGE my domains through any enom reseller? Correct?
Our system currently operates in such a way that if you are under a generic reseller that you can access your account through any PDQ site or the eNom site..... There are exceptions to this (i.e. NameCheap, RegistrarFly) which is why I say 'generic' since this involves standard PDQ sites and not custom designed API driven sites.
3. If I don't want to go back to zoomdomains, I can purchase new domains from any enom reseller and manage these in conjunction with my existing ones?
Yes. Though not all reseller sites support the same services (i.e. webhosting, WSB, Identity Protection, etc.). It is up to the reseller who administrates the site. Each operates as its own retail business, so they have control over what they want to offer and support.
4. I have automatic credit card billing (renewal) with zoomdomains .. can I cancel that (a bit hard if I cannot get to the zoomdomains site without being redirected to the cookies page)
It is eNom who is usually handling all the automatic billings, via the infrastructure we make available for our resellers, so you can adjust automatic billing settings by logging into a different PDQ site or the eNom site to access your general domain control panel. Or if you want to manage individual domains you can put a domain password on the domains so you can even update them via access.enom.com or registry rocket sites.
5. If zoomdomains no longer has a PDQ agreement, can I transfer to some other reseller without a huge fee (I have 50+ domains .. I don't want to transfer+renew each of these for a year.. too much money).
Your domains will not be lost. If for some reason a reseller ceases to be a reseller, their sub-accounts change to being directly under eNom.
When you log into a different PDQ site or the eNom site, you will still have the same pricing established by your association with your "parent" reseller. Your reseller will still recieve commissions based on whatever site you use.
It is possible to create new accounts via other PDQ sites or eNom and to push domains to a new account, thereby establishing a relationship with a different reseller or directly with eNom. Please note that reseller's prices tend to be cheaper then eNom's retail prices, since we function more as a wholesale company and offer wholesale prices to our resellers. So if you choose to stay as a retail customer it would probably be advantagious to go with a reputable reseller. This forum has many well known and well liked eNom resellers that frequent here.
Cyril91 01-28-2005, 09:45 PM divaqs, thank you very much for the clear and comprehensive explanation
