View Full Version : feedback on Aletia?

Since the host I just signed up for has their servers down, I'm thinking of signing up for someone else. I did a search on Aletia on this site, and that looks promising. Any recent feedback? Anyone UNhappy with this host? Boy, I just want to get a simple website up and am having a heck of a time.....

Thanks in advance,
Dumblond (well, just COMPUTER 'dumb') ;)

They used to be better but ain't so great anymore.

*agreed*
They used to be a tereffic value, but now they've got so much downtime, and they haven't bothered to answer any of my support requests for weeks now. I'm leaving in a hurry. You really wanna see how bad they are? Visit their boards http://www.aletiaforums.com and visit the general support board. They're going downhill really fast.

Huh? I have over 8 servers with them and I've not noticed any problems. Some people spend too long on those Aletia forums and not enough time building sites ;)

dumblond,
If you are just looking for hosting for a simple site then you should have no problems finding someone.......I am assuming you just want to put up your own personal site.........

I once went with a host that was getting millions of complaints, I had a couple of personal sites with the host at the time, and to be honest I never noticed anything wrong.............Just remember, that you will read a lot of bad reviews about hosts on here, but sometimes a host gets a bad review because of 1 minute downtime...........while there are many justified complaints also..........

If you need a lot of support, then contact a bunch of hosts and see for yourself what kind of support they have.....it is often the best way.........

100% correct! Support is not so good. They are living off their past....

Based on many (old) messages here, praising them, I signed up with Aletiahosting 13 days ago. I've been trying to cancel my Aletia account for the past 6 days, but they have ignored my daily email messages, asking them to cancel my account.

I have no problems with aletia. My current site is there and i have only experienced downtime a couple of times.
I do not mind having occasional downtime as there are no Guarantees of uptime.

Yes, support did used to be better when i first signed up (about 8 months ago) but i imagine they have far more servers and customers to deal with all the time.

They have had problems, but these have all been dealt with.
As for regards to people emailing them for support and cancelling accounts, they have been having problems with their support ticketting system, this may be why some people have not got replies, because aletia have not received the emails!

Anyway, i like aletia and would probably signup again if i was given the chance again.

Cheers,

David

Then they should use some of the money from all those new customers to hire more support people, or they're going to lose more customers.

Check their online forums, and you'll see that many people disagree with you - Aletia's not dealing with the problems, and the complaints keep piling up.

Is that what you meant when you said that "They have had problems, but these have all been dealt with."

If you read the messages on their forums, you'll see that they've been having problems with their support tickets for at least a few weeks. Does that sound like a Web host who knows how to solve problems? Besides, they obviously received the support ticket that I sent them with a simple question re: their hit counter -- the problem is that it took them 2 days to reply to it. That also doesn't explain why so many people have had problems trying to cancel their Aletia accounts. As far as I know, nobody has tried to cancel their Aletia account by using Aletia's flakey support ticket system. As I said, I sent daily email messages directly to their email account, as they told me to do in their FAQ. They chose to ignore those email messages. If you're claiming that Aletia has had both support ticket AND email problems for the past few weeks, then that certainly doesn't instill confidence in Aletia's ability to set up and maintain either of those systems, so why would you want to trust them with your Web site(s)?

After my experience with them, I would not sign up for Aletia again, but I hope it works out for you.

I was more than happy with Aletia until now and the downtime isn't too bad as long as your are not on the full Scorpion server (I am on eagle, fortunately...)
However, I have a trouble ticket open since three days now...I wonder how much time they will need to answer...maybe they are really going downhill...

Agreed some hosts may get a bad review for just 1 minute of downtime but in Aletia's case I feel that the claims have been justified. I cannot help but feel slightly uneasy about a host that can't even solve some very simple - at least from what I understand - issues, like *caugh* taking care of overcrowded servers *caugh*. We had a support ticket open for 19 days, regarding a server move, before it got answered. They've moved us to a different server and everythings seems to be working fine so far, but I still suggest you stay clear of Aletia for a while; give them some time to recover and if they do, go with them, 'cause they're sure worth it when things work. And if they don't recover, well, this is WHT - you're bound to hear about it. :)

That was a bit uncalled for, don't you think? It's hard working on a site if the server you're on refuses to cooperate.

I have two accounts with them for a little under four months now! Generally the service is pretty good, however support is a little slow. Sometimes they can reply within minutes, other times it can take them almost two days.

Hope that helps ^^;

i have several different accounts with them. absolutely TIRED of the runaround, the unanswered tickets, the "tricks" you need to do to get them to answer you.

just go to their forums. people are pissed. they used to be great. not so much any longer. completely unresponsive and no explanations other than 'we're having problems with our ticket system'... a very old response that does not explain their sudden disappearance from online chat or just general support period.

i think monkeys are running it now.

i'd steer clear of them permanently and not look back. i'm in the process of switching all my accounts out of there.

I like their "your support ticket was misrouted" excuse. :D
Seems their support team was shaken up a bit. I think there are only 2 people now.

Well,

They don't answer tickets, their AIM acct for support is never logged in anymore, and now their website is down. I back my site up everyday just waiting for them to go belly up.

There are quite a few users in the Aletia Forums that are constantly kissing Aletia's butt.
They don't care what Aletia does to them, it's kiss, kiss, kiss. Turns my stomach.
I think they must be Aletia using a bunch of different user names, it has to be, no one could be that much of a masochist.
That in itself is reason to leave.

i'm not representing aletia or anything, but fyi Snakebite was banned for spreading rumors about aletia fleeing the country b/c of 9/11 along with several other members too. yes, the policy has changed.

personally, i think aletia IS getting better. as i said before in another aletia thread, customer support is better now and some customers are reporting less than 24 hour support turn around. and they've got a new machine and they're moving my account. hey, i'm happy :)

and yes, there are LESS complaints now. and no, it's not because of deletion. some troublesome people were gotten rid of and service has gotten better. :)

i left hostrocket because they started going downhill, now they're doing fine. i'm going to stick aletia out. :)

i'm not banned, i can still read and post. and i wasn't spreading rumors, just reporting what i witnessed.

And how exacly did you "witness" this ? .. I've known allot of their people, and I allways knew most of them where NOT in the US

I am just preplexed how could you have "witness" somethign like that

Snake, I think CRego's question was about where the support people from Aletia, were during the rumors. They are mostly out of the USA from what I have read. He was questioning how you saw them leaving.

What policy changed, Clio? That one has me confused.

clio - you always say you're not representing aletia but I've seen you post over in their forums about how you get your support tickets answered in only a few minutes, and you're a board moderator. I'd think you are just a tiny bit biased...?

I left Aletia last week for several reasons, the first being lousy service and downtime, secondly because of their mailing address not checking out and having my posts on that subject deleted. If Aletia had nothing to hide, then the posts didn't need to be deleted. Deleting posts and banning users - that's how Aletia deals with customers with enough guts to speak up.

clio
04-07-2002, 10:41 PM
that's the policy that has changed. in that past, aletia has never deleted posts, threads, etc. they only edited and closed them. yes, i am and mod that in terms of bias, that's for you the reader/user to decide.

in terms of getting tickets answered in "minutes", no such thing man. I've only said "within 24" hours as the thread at the aletia forums remarks. i also have no said anything about MY tickets getting such a response, as i have not had any tickets. if you find threads where i've said i've gotten a response within minutes, i'd gladly retract this statement.

i don't know why your post was deleted. i think it got deleted not because of you but because of some of the posts made afterwards that were just outrageous. i don't recall the thread, so i can't really say.

many hosts delete threads and ban users. aletia, for quite a while, was one that did not. however, because of the situation involving a few users, the policy has changed.

things have quieted down. if you look at the forums, there aren't that many support requests and downed servers reported. i'm hoping the storm is over. :)

100% WRONG. when aletia deleted posts, they always used to leave the other threads up. now EVERYTHING is being deleted.
