Hey everyone!
I just registered and read through the seemingly endless rules page! Hopefully I didn't miss anything. Please just slap me if I did...
I was wondering if you could recommend/describe a domain registration solution for me, if I was a Web Hosting Reseller with the following tools:
WHM/Cpanel and ClientExec
I understand pretty much everything, but I was kind of confused at how I could register domains for my customers.
The signup process for ClientExec allows the customer to enter a domain that they wish to purchase, or they can transfer an existing one. There is no process of course, which actually automatically registers the new domain that they wish to purchase.
Does this mean that I would have to use the customer's signup details (e.g. Name, Email Address, Password, etc) and manually register their new domain for them using a registrar such as GoDaddy? Or is there some method I could use to automate this process?
I prefer to stay with ClientExec as my billing/support software, so if you have any applications/scripts to suggest, is it possible to use it alongside ClientExec?
I hope I have made that clear enough, please ask if you need more details.
Thanks very much.

You cannot use your customer information in such thing.
I was advised to go with eNom ETP, or get an eNom reseller from someone here.
I'm when I had a hosting package and a domain from a company they used to have their own company information in the whois, so I think your client pays your services through the billing software and then you do activate the domain in your reseller program.
Some sites register domains through their own interfaces too. but I don't know too much about this. Good Luck! :)

Thanks for your help S-Comm!
I'd heard of eNom before, but wasn't sure if I was on the right track.
I'll check it out in more detail this time.

As S-Comm suggested your first choice should be Enom if you are expecting large number of domain registration or transfers in the next few years. Their system is extremely stable and usually bug free.
You can also start off with Directi if you won't be expecting large number of domain registrations at first or preferring price over quality.
A few scripts that go with Enom are:
1. Modernbill
2. DramSystems
3. WhmAutopilot

Thanks. I checked out DirectI too.
I really do not care about making a profit from the domain registration (although I know that there is not much to be made from this anyway), and I do not expect many domain registrations within the first year. I just want to give my customers some way of registering a domain, which is linked to my website.
The problem is that I can't disable the option for paying for domain registration during the ClientExec sign up process. Therefore there would be big problems if the customer was paying me for domain registration as well as hosting, but then I was telling them that they would have to register their chosen domain with another company!!
That means I do not really have a choice. If I use ClientExec (which I must) then I will have to offer domain registration too.
I still do not understand how using a service such as eNom will link in with the sign up process of ClientExec. (I would link to a demo sign up form on the ClientExec website but I can't yet because I need more posts!)
Basically, the customer receives two options first: Register a new domain, or transfer an existing one. If they choose to register, they select which domain they want, and the billing cycle, etc, and they submit the form.
After the customer signs up, they receive an email with their account details.
The confusion for me, is what steps do I take next (after receiving the customer's request for a new domain) to get it registered?
Domain registration has never been my problem before as you may have already worked out lol! Unless I was registering for myself...

I'm not sure, but there's must be an option to disable that. I can't imagine that they built it for companies that provider domains plus hosting only.
I never used ClientExec, but with a little php you can remove the first option entirely?

You can pass selected parameters to Client Exec's signup page and then front the whole CE system via your own web pages, leaving CE to do the collection of customer details etc...
However, the lack of integration with any domain registrar is a long running grumble with CE.
You do have a choice whether to use CE though ! Nothing's compulsary, even if you get it bundled free with the package.
If you want something simple & cheap, then have a look at whois.cart() as this will give a nice simple interface and hook in with many registrars giving you an integrated solution. If setup correctly, once you authorise the order, then it will register the domain and then create the hosting account automatically.
