View Full Version : has anyone had a bad experience with dv2 / tranxactglobal?
panopticon 02-21-2002, 01:12 AM I am really tempted to go with a server from dv2 / tranxact global. It seems all the comments have been pretty good and I like what sailor has said on the forums.
Has anyone had any problems dealing with them or with their servers there?
Edit: also please feel free to PM me if you don't want to post on the forums. Thanks very much - this is my first dedicated server and I really don't want to make a mistake.
Wolfy 02-21-2002, 07:19 AM Would it not be much better, and less confrontational to ask about all experiences people have had?
If 5 people were to say they were bad, it wouldn’t be a good sign, but if, at the same time, 100 people said they were good, then you'd get a much better idea of the situation.
panopticon 02-21-2002, 03:48 PM You're right - I should have asked for both good and bad comments, and I would like to hear from anyone that has a server there (that hasn't already posted their experience in the special offers thread, which were all good comments btw) about anything that you've found really good or really bad or just things to watch out for when getting a server with dv2/transxactglobal.
Thanks in advance for any comments.
drewnick 02-21-2002, 10:27 PM We have a full cabinet in their datacenter and have been tickled to death with them. Their response is consistent and fast!!! They really do have people in there 24x7. I know because I have card access and see techs from DV2 in there at 2:00 AM.
Or, better yet, when I am on the way home from the NOC, smoking a cigarette, and remember I forgot to turn the power switch on my new installation, they do it for me with a call!
Cheers to DV2.

AcuNett 02-21-2002, 11:21 PM What are their connections?
sailor 02-21-2002, 11:57 PM 100 meg to cogent currently running about 50 megs
100 meg to our peering router with 14 providers in atlanta currently about 27 megs
burstable gig with aleron - currently about 35 megs
level 3 burstable gig coming in april - maybe qwest too. (if they will get their head out of the clouds).
2Grumpy 02-22-2002, 12:51 AM Let me put it like this:
I have 3 servers at Rackshack
1 at EFreeServers
1 at DV2.com
I'm moving all my business into a local colo.
All but one server that is. The one at DV2.
Rackshack I get tired of 2 hour reboots and the old "lets do an OS restore" for every problem. And EFree the only reason is I'm paying $199 for a RaQ 4 other than that they've been quite acceptable in their service, so I'm just gonna buy out the server and have 'em send it to me :) I'd do the same with Rackshack if I thought they would. But since DV2 is priced right, and the response has been so fast, I'm not gonna bother moving off of the server I have with them.
Only reason (and I mean the only one) that I'm not coloing with them instead of the local company I'm gonna use is the 3 hour drive from here - there. It's just too far to drive and I want my servers within quick "honey gotta run to the data center real fast" distance.
WALoeIII 02-22-2002, 03:40 AM I'm liking these posts!
I'm very curious as well.

That's a good plan! I think adding Level3/Qwest or even UUNet is necessary for better connectivity with your BGP4 router.
Although ping and traceroute result to dv2 is very good within the US, it's below average from my location (South East Asia). I'm not sure if your connection is really that fast from outside US.
sailor 02-22-2002, 12:35 PM I recently ran some traces against most of my major compeitors and we all fared about the same on average. I beat them some -they beat me some.
WALoeIII 02-22-2002, 02:46 PM damn you sailor....
I'm having such a hard time finding holes in your deal!

SONICdomains 02-23-2002, 05:30 PM I was looking at DV2's backbone infrastructure map and there should be a dozen or so locations that are "data center capable".
Do any of these data center's exist?
Also, where will the xp1700 server be located?
Is there more than one possible location for the servers?
Is there more than one possible location for the colo?
Are the colo'd servers in the same location as the xp1700 servers?
What security measures are in the xp1700 facility and the colo facilities?

Digster4 02-24-2002, 09:43 AM It's easy to complain when something doesn't go right but when it does, people tend to not say much.
I am one of sailors customers and just want to say that sailor and everyone at DV2 have been great. Many times my email is answered within 3 minutes. Yeah, I was very surprised to get such quick replies. In all cases responses have been outstanding. They have been very helpful and the server was set up extremely quick. ..... the 1700 is nice! :D
