I just purchased a Raq 4i. Just got my 2 domains in it and set it up to host Dns for 3 domains of mine. I also added about a hundred email addresses to it. This Raq was an upgrade from a Windowz based server we were using.

My question is: do I need to install any patches to the Raq or were all the available ones installed when Cobalt sent it out the door? According to the supplier it had to be ordered in from Cobalt or something so I imagine it just came out there doors not to long ago. How do I tell what patches are installed?

http://www.cobalt.com/support/download/raq4.eng.html

It sounds like "OS Update 2.0" is the only one necessary to bring the thing up to date, is that right? How do I apply this patch? Should I back my server up first before applying the patch? How?

I am new to the Raq but it seems to work great so far and am hoping for some guidance here.

Thanks

Matt

hi hci,

First check , is it new box , i mean just freshen installed one.
Then login to your box as admin, select maintainance ,select install software. Here you will see list of pathches or pkgs which are already installed on your box. find wheather this patch is installed , if not you need to install it.
Note first take full backup of server using scheduled backup, also make it sure that you have emergency recovery CD which comes from cobalt.
Then if your server do not have any patches installed ( what you say , thats its a new box ) then Read the full doc on site, You will need to install all patches one by one starting from bottom on that site, do not make in sequence.Normally there are something 40 to 50 patches on raq from main site , you need to install , once you got new raq 4i box in place.
also pl. keep your raq behind firewall, since it have major security services open like finger or close all not required services in raq.
for better security scan make ISS security scan www.iss.net on machine.
