Hi
I am trying to register my nameservers with 1and1. The nameservers use the same domain as my domain so it says I need to create sub-domains but on the new menu there is only an option to add a new domain not a sub-domain. Does anybody know how I do this?
Cheers

sub-domains can also be considered domains in their own right. You are usually able to just put in "ns1.yourdomain.com" and "ns2.yourdomain.com" or whatever, and their respective IP addresses, and it should work - as long as there are "A" records set up on the DNS for them.
mjspencer,
I would suggest contacting their Customer Support regarding the issue. I think it will be the best solution for the situation.

It seems to be working OK now

I'm having exactly the same problem - how did you manage to sort it out. I have spent most of the morning on the phone to them and they are basically saying I can't set a glue domain unless I take a hosting package with them - I mean how pointless would that be!!!!
Also they havn't renewed my domain name like they were meant to. I can now see why they get such a bad reputation. Even cancelling with them seems a long drawn out process.

I thought it was working because it was pointing to my hosting account. But the name servers dont work. I going to try and cancel my domain and register it elsewhere

Good Luck trying to cancel - you have to fax them a cancellation form and they claim it will take 14 DAYS to complete.

http://faq.1and1.com/domains/dns_settings_/14.html . Sub domains are automatically registered as name servers as soon as you set one of your domains to use them (in 1&1's control panel). You cannot change registrars for a domain within 60 days after the initial registration or the last change of registrar (ICANN restriction).

Sorry aldee I seem to be disagreeing with you a lot at the moment lol :)
I don't know if you have access to 1and1's domain control panel but there isnt an option to create subdomains if you try and change the nameserver entries to
ns1.mydomain.co.uk
ns2.mydomain.co.uk
it returns this error:
Subdomains of the original domainname as name servers for the original domainname need a fixed IP! Please refer to the FAQ (keyword: Glue domain)!
I really can't find where to assign an IP to the subdomains as instructed in the FAQ.

In 1and1.com's control panel there's an option to create sub domains in all plans for sure (including "instant domain"). I must admit that I'm not sure about 1and1.co.uk.

Instant domains dont include sub-domains
