Is the board becoming more dull?

All I see is people complaining about their hosts and asking weird questions which half of the board can't understand. I haven't seen any intelligent discussions latley. At least ANY discussion that everyone can participate in AND learn from it.

:(

I don't think this board is becoming dull at all. My "sex life?" poll certainly stirred things up for a while.

I don't see it as dull. Here we are; talking bout how we don't talk about anything.
While some may find this boring; I'm just gonna sit over here in the corner and think about it a while. :cartman:

I noticed that newbies actually don't know how to use the search button. They just post questions which have been asked and answered thousand times.
I don't know the exact figures but I guess there are about 500 double threads which could have been prevented by clicking on "SEARCH".

Someone should add a hack into vb so that when a user asks a question that's been asked a thousand times before he will get 10 popups, 3 popunders, and 4 full-screen ads of that x10 camera. :D

We could just follow the comp.arch approach and give really silly answers to FAQs.

For example:
Q. www.unlimitedtrash.com offers unlimited disk space and bandwidth for $2/month. Are they any good?
A. Unlimited bandwidth? That sounds pretty good to me. And unlmited disk space? Better sign up quick before they change their mind.

or

Q. What do you think of *****?
A. Well, they've got an awful lot of customers... they must be doing something right.

Of course the best answers in comp.arch come in response to homework questions (the Von Neumann bottleneck was quite classic) which we don't get around here. But we do get some server configuration FAQs from time to time...

the best thing will be mods stick a NEWBIE FAQ thread on top of every form where all faq should be answered and updated.

i have seen this on many forms and i think it works, example devshed.com forms. :)

No! Never!!!
I really appreciate the weekly thread about ***** or the daily "my new domain doesn't show up". The only thread which would stay would be "Burst: please contact me as soon as possible".
*shudder*
:D

When newbies post questions that have been answered already, just point them to the thread or let them know about the search issue. Yes I know this happens about 10 times a day but they may not take the time to read the forum rules or even know about the search feature.

Or after they sign up for an account when they receive their account activation email, attach the entire forum archive to it and state "Please read the attached file in its entirety before posting any questions to the forums", within that email :D

Instread of the whole archive, what about some simple notes on how to use the search facility, and some basic guidelines - even a copy of the rules.

Food for thought.
