View Full Version : Yet another new control panel
vselvara 02-20-2002, 07:21 PM I have been working on a control panel will be very similar to the cobalt raq but much faster, called Selvaraj Server. Right now I am only developing it for freebsd. Might do a linux version later. Its written in java (servlets), and a little 'c'. Its extremely fast since, most of the tasks are handled by seperate threads. So when you create a virtual site, you dont need to sit and wait for apache & sendmail to get restarted. For those that are interested in screenshots may find them here should click here (http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/selvarajserver/lst?&.dir=/SelvarajServer&.src=bc&.view=t&.begin=1&.order=&.done=http%3a//briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/selvarajserver/lst%3f%26.dir=/SelvarajServer%26.src=bc%26.view=t).
I can guarantee that this will be the FASTEST control panel around!
lostpacket 02-21-2002, 10:58 AM I need a good fast control panel. Can you tell me what other options are available for it ?
Thanks ahead of time.
vselvara 02-21-2002, 07:03 PM This control panel will be simple and not have too many options. Unlike other control panels this will not pack a ticket system, billing system and other unneccessary packages. I am trying to keep this control panel as simple as possible.
;)

I was under the impression that those ARE desirable features in a control panel.
vselvara 02-22-2002, 12:25 AM Some people like to se as many features as possible. They want a control panel which can handle their entire business. Its not easy to make a control panel like that. Building a good ticket system takes a lot of effort. Its the same for a billing system. It is better to leave some stuff out. There are good ticket systems and billing systems out there.
This control panel is not for those who desire every software package they can think of packed in one.
2Grumpy 02-22-2002, 02:01 AM Well, I have a billing system (Modernbill) and a ticket system (perldesk) and they suit my needs fine.
But I wouldn't mind a good control panel that won't cost me an arm and a leg. Plesk is a good panel but man is it pricey.
vselvara 02-22-2002, 03:47 AM I wanted some advice on pricing. I personally dont like the idea of monthly billing. Since this is a very simple control panel, it will also have a very simple price ;) .
I am thinking of offering an introductory unlimited license for $200 (per server). And maybe charge for support per incident.
lostpacket 02-23-2002, 10:18 AM That pricing sounds fair. Would that $200/per server include an install also ? Alot of companies out there have good software and don't charge you that much untill you try to get it installed and you can't then you have to pay out your @ss to get it up and working correctly in a resonable amount of time.
;)
vselvara 02-23-2002, 10:55 AM Yes it will include install. The installation will be very simple.. Right now its only for freebsd. The installation program takes advantage of FreeBSD's ports sections (great feature). I keep modifying the install program as needed so I wont have to suffer in the end trying to make a installer.
lostpacket 02-23-2002, 11:04 AM I love FreeBSD, I think its the most stable operating system out there, and the Ports feature is great, I think that anyone could use it even if they have minimul unix experience. I can't wait to try it out, your screen shots look really impressive.
vselvara 03-03-2002, 02:32 AM Thank you lostpacket.
I am planning on working on a linux aswell as a solaris version of my control panel. I would like to know what the demand for a control panel is for Solaris. I havent heard of too many control panels for Solaris.
lostpacket 03-03-2002, 02:42 AM When will your CP be ready to install and use fully. I would like to start testing it on some of my servers....
vselvara 03-03-2002, 10:39 PM I am shooting for the end of April. It wont be released until its fully tested.
lostpacket 03-04-2002, 12:07 AM Sounds great, will you need any beta testers?
vselvara 03-04-2002, 04:03 AM I could really use some beta testing. I need it fully tested. I will send you a PM with details.
