View Full Version : What is better, frontpage or dreamweaver?
Storagedump.com 01-26-2005, 04:45 AM i know most of you will say dreamweaver, and im embarrassed to say i perfer it. But, it has that lovely preview option and thats what is keeping me hooked.. with dreamweaver i have no idea what i have done until the site has been uploaded.. i dont know html lol :(
dirmass 01-26-2005, 06:20 AM I never used dreamweaver, I'm a notepad person. But I'd say it's better just because frontpage is made by microsoft...
saghir69 01-26-2005, 06:34 AM well a proffesional wouldn't use frontpage!
I don't know what its like these days but up to fp2000 it used to have crap code added that you don't really need!
Tmonster 01-26-2005, 06:39 AM Dreamweaver is 1000 times better and more professional.
the_pm 01-26-2005, 09:38 AM Which one's better, catching a cold or being told you have terminal cancer? Catching a cold? Ok then, Dreamweaver's better.
Corey Bryant 01-26-2005, 09:39 AM This is kind of the wrong forum to ask that type of question :) These people like to handcode everything.
However, I understand your need to use a WYSIWYG editor. What editor are you already using? It seems like possibly FP? What version? If it is FP 2003 - much better than the previous versions.
If FrontPage is doing everything that you need it to do - keep using it - but learn HTML. I have a few resellers that actually design websites with Frontpage, but they do not know HTML. In this day and age, you need to at least know HTML.

All WYSIWYG editors do this unfortunately. Ever see that JavaScript rollover script that it uses?
Once you know HTML, you will learn what coding that might be added that you can delete or change
Karolis 01-26-2005, 10:30 AM Notepad here :)
saghir69 01-26-2005, 10:32 AM ^ is it like the matrix for you? lol
you don't even see the code, instead you see the actual layout.
_free_ 01-28-2005, 06:21 AM Dreamweaver... I don't really like Frontpage. Ok, It's a great product (no doubt about it), but when it comes down to features, I choose Dreamweaver. have any of you guys ever tried Adobe goLive! ?
Saryooo 01-28-2005, 10:29 AM Here is some difference in both.
FrontPage use html code when you try to make some thing through tools.
Dreamweaver mostly use style sheet when you make page.
When you pick color through FrontPage it pick really and perfect color but in Dreamweaver some difference in original and pick color.
In Dreamweaver its easy to insert Flash, Rollovers etc. and beacuse it use css so work fine in all browser.
Beacuse FrontPage use applets or java for hover buttons etc. SO it must you have Front Page extension installed in your host for use that appets etc.
In FrontPage easy to make tables, delete rows or columns with Table eraser tool but little difficult to do same in Dreamweaver.
Dreamweaver have builtin Server Scripting, Refrences etc. but FrontPage not.
Jamie Harrop 01-28-2005, 12:33 PM Dreamweaver is better in my oppinion but still not good enough. One of my rants addresses both Frontpages and Dreamweavers problems... http://forums.iwdn.net/viewtopic.php?t=331&highlight=wysiwyg
eDiamondStudios 01-28-2005, 10:21 PM You can select "design view" in dreamweaver and make your site without html, like you would do in frontpage.
FrontPage sucks
marsian 01-29-2005, 01:40 AM want to learn HTML?CSS? use dreameaver with split screen having "code view and design view"
start working from "design view" see how the code changes, try using the "code view".
dmghosts 01-29-2005, 04:07 AM Dreamweaver is better...... it's not even worth asking :-/ Anyway, dreamweaver has lots of trash codes though.
I agree with the_pm's analogy.
All WYSIWYG editors do this unfortunately. Ever see that JavaScript rollover script that it uses?
xstandard is supposed to be a quality code producing WYSIWYG editor.. too bad it works from an activeX control inside of a webpage.
Jamie Harrop 01-29-2005, 09:23 AM but I'd say it's better just because frontpage is made by microsoft...
If there is a mistake to make do not make the mistake of thinking because Microsoft are well known they make good quality software. Far from it, Frontpage cares about Internet Explorer and Internet Explorer only. No more, and I am tempted to say probably a little less.
cavalry 01-30-2005, 01:57 PM I use Namo 5.5 only.
will7 01-30-2005, 02:45 PM Dreamweaver is the king. The days of hand-coding are long gone.
cavalry 01-30-2005, 02:51 PM I think Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 is the latest version?
What are the minimum system requirements (hardware and software) to use Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004?
Okay, I got it here: ;)

will7, this is one heck of an assumption to make. What grounds do you base this on? I do not see this as the case at all and I am sure 95% of fellow web developers will agree that the days of hand coding are still here and will be for many many years to come. With new standards arising all the time and with the new drive for tableless and XHTML layouts only by hand coding, whether this is in a text editor or Dreamweavers text editor interface, can you stay up to date and produce good quality code.
