The Datacenter is KingComp Here is some Info:

Our data center is located in Chicago, IL. Our building is the Board of Trade Building North Tower Suite #3602. KingComp DataCenter

The datacenter that we are in is KingComp. It is a relativley new center with amazing connections. The datacenter is not like any RackShack carrier class center however is kept neat and is secure.

Connection
There are 2 100mbit Full Duplex to a OC-48. Our providers are Cogent.

Standby Parts and Servers
We have extra parts and built servers avaible on site so if your server fails we can install another one within minutes. We make sure that downtime is at a minimum.

Security
Since the buidling is such a historical building ,it requires top of the line security. It is very difficult to get into the building without a pass or if someone has invited you and you are met downstairs.

----------------------------------------------

Setup is within 1-3 Days

---------------------------------------------
Bandwidth is unmetered. This does not mean unlimited. Each server will be connected to a Shared 10mbps port with a max of 5 users to a port. Each server gets 2mbps. The reason I list 300GB of BW is because that can be pulled from the port easily.

No UPS/Backup generators? (just noticed lookin in the pics something that looked like a tiny 300WA ups beside one of the boxes, like the one under my desk hehe)

x213Networks
02-20-2002, 08:30 PM
There are a few of those UPS around the dc.

Thanks

porcupine
02-20-2002, 08:39 PM
I've got a few ups's around my house too, it doesen't mean that my equipment is actually on them though, thats a little bit of an evasive answer. The only reason i asked is because i thought it was very odd that there was a tiny 200-600VA ups sitting beside a machine in a datacenter...

Not to offend you, the servers sit on the floor? The wires are everywhere... What if someone trips on the wires?

porcupine
02-20-2002, 09:55 PM
I doubt if it'd matter, if you look closely at the picture, 1/2 of the servers aren't even plugged in, i'm not sure if any of those are even active, it's such a tiny picture a little difficult to see.

x213Networks
02-20-2002, 09:58 PM
WOW thats funny. I was about to write that when I got signed off. Hehehe

Yes, those servers are just for storage and testing. I am trying to get more pictures soon.

Thanks

ummm, those pics on your site, on the network page, thats your bedroom right, it doesnt look like any dc ive seen. carpet under the servers? and is that a window behind the tft's i swear i see grass. its not incredibly confidence inspiring. you may wish to reconsider the photoes. sorry if thats blunt but its just my impression. im a sucker for rows of identicle cases and racks neatly secured cables etc. apologies in advance if im mistaken.
lol forgot to say nice site design tho. like the style.

porcupine
02-21-2002, 08:20 PM
Richy: don't forget zip-ties (to wrap the cables together) if you're anything like me, the dc picture isn't complete without 'em! :D

richy
02-21-2002, 08:35 PM
yup even my room has loads of em, and those cool little black plastic sticky things you put on the wall and tie the the zip and cables too. if it aint neat its an accident waiting to happen, and keyboards lieing arround on the floor etc, it just aint neat and tidy like youd have it for a photo.

Zip-ties are loads of fun, saves you hassle and costs of conduits when you can have a large zip tie, and some hooks in the wall/ceiling and just zip up 5+ cables to form a uh... zip-tie conduit! that and they're great for punk kids, i always wanted to go out on devils night and zip-tie all the kids who caused trouble (Throwing eggs, toilet paper, etc.) in the neighbourhood to the trees/street signs, someday i'm sure i'll get tossed in the slammer for doing that ^_^

I think that's kingcomp's data center as mentioned here (http://x213.com/network.htm).
Frankly, I would not put a server in such a building even if I were paid for it. No offense intented. I wish you good luck for your business anyway. It's certainly a good deal for people who don't need or don't want carrier-grade data-centers.

richy

i was thinking of kingcomp for a game server for me and some mates really. id rather rent a server then send my own but i havent got the time for now.
and on zip ties it wasnt until i worked for du pont in the research labs i found out how BIG you could get those ties, like you could hang off them lol. and the reuseable ones kick , with the tab to undo them lol simple things.

and nuno
5400 rpm hard drives, whats up? its odd he only offers 5400 i admit and yes they are slow, and anyone who knows me knows that if its ide and mine its a maxtor with 7200 and 2mb cache but some providers do use 5400 to save money.

edit: just saw the about us page, that pic of the rack of either dells or ibms, i think its dells but its a bit too low res. you do use dell right otherwise youd be in trouble from both dell and trading standards for false advertising. same again for the cobalt raqs. and since you state you host in towers etc. just niggles but its better you hear it from someone being nice then as you get sued.

Its their for look its just a picture. I am not lying about the servers. You know what you get and where its going. Why should I take down the pics. I want people to know what they are getting.

Thanks

porcupine
02-21-2002, 11:18 PM
I don't think people want you to take the pictures down, they're merely saying that they dont look like they're housed in any form of a datacenter and that in one picture you could see a window and what looked to be grass growing outside. AKA that it wasn't the facility, it was someones house.

x213Networks
02-21-2002, 11:42 PM
Ya I understand. It not grass its sky.

Maybe I should focus on webdesign. You seem to like my designs.

His prices seem unbeatable though so of course that has to be made up somewhere. But is the price rate sustainable for long and can it be profitable?

richy
02-22-2002, 11:11 AM
okies i see what your saying, and yes the design is great, but heres a suggestion, go to maplins or whatever it is in the states radio shack or something, buy a bundle of tie wraps and cable guides and route all the cables, pick the kb off the floor and out of viewm and get the wires on your desk out of view. i know it sounds really picky but neatness etc presents a more professional view. also am i being really mental or do servers look better when all in identicle cases lol.

as for the prices, they seem in line with kingcomps prices so i dont think his plan is flawed if kingcomps isnt i,e, hes fine as long as they are.

best wishes

Ya well, I would love to do that......Don't you think that if I was in charge at that center their would be a clean floor.........I would buy these

Hehe......If this control panel comes to good fortune I will invest into another center.

Richy: x213 is a kingcomp reseller, so it's not really his fault the DC looks like that. And tie wraps are that? 10$ for about 250 of them ^_^, i think it's an issue of time and effort invested on kingcomp's side.
