Thats a nice price :)

Just a a couple of quick questions:

Are there any backup providers if Cogent is down?

If I'm reading your offer (and your website correctly), the connection is fully burstable up to 100Mbps, and you get 540Gb/m ?

Thankyou for your help.

Visited your web page, what is this hot fail over service you are offering?

cheers,

This is an extra connection from the switch if you have dual network cards on your system. When your 1st card fails, your second card can kick in with the second connection.

You can also use the second connection for load balancing and have traffic go over both connections if you are being billed under our actual transfer method.

If you need more complex redundancy, we can work with you to help set this up.

Right now, this is a Cogent only offering. We are working to add a small bit of our level3 and yipes bandwidth as a backup. We are working on a way to give you this offering at the same price.

If I'm reading your offer (and your website correctly), the connection is fully burstable up to 100Mbps, and you get 540Gb/m ?

This is correct. You get a 100mbps switched port that is fully burstable and you can be billed off of actual data transferred or 95th percentile (your choice)

Thankyou for your help.

Some of our customer do offfer dedicated services from our pricing. We are a wholesale colocation company. If you would like dedicated services pricing, I can put you in touch with some customers. Email me at emoore@wholesalecolo.com if you need a dedicated server.

How long will this offer last?

Do you have any current clients that I could contact for their opinion of the service?

emoore
02-20-2002, 03:15 PM
The length of the promotion will be the next couple of weeks.

As for some references, I will see what I can round up for you. I have a confidentiality agreement with most everyone so I have to get their permission or have them contact you.

I wish there was some redundancy in case Cogent goes down.
Any chance there would be an affordable fail over line?
Other than that it is a fantastic deal.

panopticon
02-20-2002, 08:43 PM
The following carriers are in the facility and most of them are ready to be turned on in 2-30 days.
BTI, ACSI, Allegiance Telecom, Bellsouth, BTI (Fibersouth), Cable & Wireless, CIAS, CMET, Cogent, Comsat, Connspec, Covad, Synegy, Enron Broadband, EPIK Communication, Fibermedia, Fuzion Wireless, FPL Fibrenet, Genuity, Giant, Global Crossing, GTE International, Happy Empire, Impsat, Latin American Nautilus, Level3, Maxcess, MFS Worldcomm, Progress Telecom, QOS, Qwest, Sphera Optical, StarTap, Startec, Telefonica, Telseon, Williams, WebAccessWired, XO Communications, and YIPES.

So if someone wanted to place a 1u server there on the cogent connection as primary, what would it cost per month to have a Yipes connection as a secondary if the cogent line was down? Or one of the (more affordable) others as a backup? Or would the equipment necessary to provide the failover also have to be provided and itself be very very expensive?

emoore
02-20-2002, 09:33 PM
The carriers you list are in the facility. However, they are more expensive than Cogent. No carrier really comes close to providing bandwidth at the price of Cogent. You can get about a mbps of YIPES, TELSEON, or EPIK but it will cost you. We are adding some redundant bandwidth through yipes and epik as a backup for the listed service and am trying to do it where we can keep similar pricing, but there will probably be a slightly increased price for this. However, anyone who signs up with these specials, we will provide the redundant bandwidth at no increase in price.

How many people work for wholesalecolo.com? If something went wrong and I needed a hard drive swapped at the hourly tech fee (since I am not in your area) would you be the one to do it? How may tech's are currently available to do this type of service?

emoore
02-20-2002, 10:03 PM
1. 4 partners. 3 of these are stacked with certifications.
2. The facility we are in also has 3 full time techs
3. I have 5 contract techs who work for me as well.

The answer is I have plenty of help to handle your technical needs and can help you with the remote hands fee of $88 / hour. We do not believe in charging $100 - 150 hour for these fees. We save those charges for our Oracle customers. :)

Is your website hosted on a RaQ at rackshack?

emoore
02-21-2002, 10:00 AM
Yes, our server is at Rackshack. We have had 4 servers with them since the beginning. We had used them for hosting in the past, and they are a good company. We have never had any major problems with them, so we have had no reason to switch. Our colocation space is in LayerOne (www.layerone.com) is Miami FL. What we do differently than LayerOne is sell rackspace by the vertical inch and sell smaller pieces of bandwidth. Layerone sells by the cage or rack and you have to bring in your own bandwidth. Layerone has about 30 carriers in the facility that you have to negotiate with yourself. What we do differently from Rackshack is we only sell colocation.

Any dedicated server inquiries that we get, we work with our customers who offer dedicated servers. If one of our customers can't take care of them, I would be glad to recommend anyone to Rackshack. They are a quality company with quality management up top and this is what makes them successful.

Our service is not for everyone. We offer wholesale prices on colocation. Our revenue model is high volume, low margin. We don't make a lot of money on each and every sale. We use low prices to build our business so we can leverage our suppliers for lower prices to increase our bottom line.

I hope this can answer some of your questions.

emoore

Currently, we have 5 customers who offer dedicated servers through our colocation, but they are on the high end.

Because we have had dozens of inquiries about servers with our bandwidth, I thought I would post some of their pricing.

4 U / 2 AMD 1.6 GHz / 4 NIC / 1 GB Ram / 16 * 160 GB IDE RAID Hotswap =
$1250/Month

2 U / 2 Pen 1.13 GHz / 2 NIC / 1 GB Ram / 4 * 160 IDE RAID Fixed =
$400/Month

1 U / 2 CPU / 2 NIC / 1 GB Ram / 2 * 36.4 SCSI RAID w/256 MB Cach Hotswap =
$275/Month

1 U / 2 Pen 1.6 GHz / 2 NIC / 1 GB Ram / 2 * 160 MB IDE Fixed = $250/Month

1 U / 1 Pen IV - 1.4 GHz / 2 NIC / 512 MB Ram / 2 * 100 MB IDE Fixed =
$150/Month

1 U / 1 CPU / 2 NIC / 512 MB Ram / 1 * 36.4 SCSI Hotswap = $200/Month

This customer doesn't do a lot of additions or changes to these configurations as they keep hot spare servers in our racks to get you back online quickly if there is a problem.

These are with no bandwidth. You must add one of our plans our or the special listed in this thread.

Contact me at emoore@wholesalecolo.com if you are interested and I will put you in touch with him.

emoore

Also, if you are interested in selling lower end dedicated servers (rack or small towers), please contact me as we have a few dozen leads for servers in the 100-150 range with no setup fees.

We can work the deals in many different ways. Please contact me if interested.

Thanks for everyone's responses through email.

emoore

We accept towers, but the special is for 1u of space.

Contact me at emoore@wholesalecolo.com with the dimensions of your unit and what bandwidth you are looking for and I will provide you with a quote.

This offer looks very interesting but I still have a few questions:

1. What is the IP Policy? (ARIN or charge?)

2. What type of switch or router will we hook up to?

3. Is it possible to buy the bandwidth/transfer alone (say I have a 1u server and need 1080GB transfer).

According to my subtraction, $89 minus the $48 1u space+power fee comes out to $41 for an extra 540GB.

How much are you charging for the extra bandwidth/transfer?

Regards,

1. What is the IP Policy? (ARIN or charge?)

ANSWER:
We give 8 IPs per plan. Each additional IP is a one time charge of $1.50. If you need more and this charge is a burden, we are willing to work with you.

2. What type of switch or router will we hook up to?

ANSWER:
Cisco and Foundry equipment

3. Is it possible to buy the bandwidth/transfer alone (say I have a 1u server and need 1080GB transfer).

ANSWER:
You can be billed either way you choose. You can be billed by the 95th % method or by bandwidth transferred.

If you need 1080GB, we have a 3MBPS or 1080GB special with 1U and power for $179 right now.

On the 2 specials, extra bandwidth is billed at $2.50 per 10gb increments or $50 per 360gb increment.

Hi,

I'm a little concerned -- I have emailed emoore@wholesalecolocation.com several times already, and tried to find a phone number to take you up on this $89 / month offer, but never got anywhere. No replies, no order form for the promo to be found...

What's going on, emoore? Can you help? Am I trying to order this wrong?

I am not sure what is happening here, but I am sure that many will speak up on my behalf that I go out of my way to email and talk to potential clients and help them make an informed decision. I usually answer all of my email in 15 minutes or less. I will contact you off board.

Also, if you need an order form, there are several ways to get to it on the sight. Dozens of people have used this in the past week. You can click on the top menu and then click order now, or you can click directly on the special of $89 on the front page of our site. This will take you to an order form.

The deal is now multihomed bandwidth with EPIK.

Epik uses Level3 for a lot of their routes.

We are working towards adding some of our Verio and Global Crossing bandwidth to the mix as well in a few months.
