View Full Version : Another server monitoring question with a twist.

I have searched for and downloaded several server monitoring tools including zabbix and cacti, naigos etc. Those are longer term solutions but I have a simpler need, perhaps someone here can help as it seems this would be something that there should be lots of options for.

I need a simple (php preferred) application that would do:

- icmp polls on a schedule
- traceroute on a schedule (optional)
- log responses / trends to a log file
- ability to email if x icmp failures

I don't mean that I go to the page and then it checks the hosts, I mean the server is constantly checking and reporting back. I understand that a few services do this already siteuptime, alerta .. but lets just assume I am a control freak and for whatever silly reason, want to do it myself.

Thats it. Clearly url or port monitoring would be a nice addon but if you assume I could have any os of server running in the office and on the internet and I merely want to see if they are alive without any agent on the target machine, what would you recommend?

Don't need it to be free even thought that would be nice and I just keep feeling I must be searching with the wrong search words here and sourceforge and google as isn't this something everyone would want to have?

I've been pleased with Hybodus Web Developer Edition, http://www.hybodus.com

I think it does pretty much what you need it to.

Actually it looks great. I thought that it was a windows application for some reason. Going to install it now.

Bailey, any idea what this is all about? I see mention of it on their forum but no resolution. Just curious if you saw it. I have the license file, the setting is in php.ini and I restarted apache. A php info script I have sees that setting, yet....

Warning: No license for this product ('Hybodus Lite') - make sure zend_optimizer.license_path is properly configured in php.ini! in /home/sitemon/public_html/devnull/index.php on line 0

Please login to your client area at hybodus.com and download the correct license. There are two options for downloading a trial license, one for Hybodus Professional, and another for Hybodus Web Developer Edition (WDE).
