I have a client who has a few customers who have access to the web but are not really internet users. Some of these don't have email addresses. Is there any way for those customers without email addresses to make payments at their website with paypal as well?

I think there is an option to set up single credit card payments for non-paypal customers, with some restrictions (of course).

use advanced google search, select domain "paypal.com" and search for "Account Optional".

PayPal Account Optional does allow you to process credit card payments from customers without PayPal accounts. However, the customers are still asked for their email address during the payment process. This email address is used to send out the receipt for the payment, and I do not think the payment can be completed without some address being entered.

OK - I have to ask. If they have internet access, wouldn't their ISP provide an email address?

I've done quite a bit of searching to see if there were any work arounds for this, but I didnt find any. The only alternative I could find was a merchant account, I was looking into CDGCommerce. Not sure if they want to make that jump yet. Are there any other services that dont require email to allow customers to make payments besides merchant accounts?

Check out 2CO also. They might not require that as well.

Thats what I would have figured. But I can see how that can happen, perhaps a family member allows you to use their computer for internet on occasion to do simple things. Strange as it may be, I think that's normal for some of the older - less "tech" individuals at times.

Even Judge Judy - who admits is not technical - has an email address. Heck, she has a website. I guess in this day and age, we think that everyone has one since emails are a dime a dozen.

That's what I was hoping to avoid, but seems like that's what I'm going to have to go with for their site. Just got a similar suggestion from someone on the paypaldev.org.

I'll probably include a side note next to the payment box, "Requires Email address - Click Here to sign up for a free e-mail account." It will probably be free email provider, like yahoo as mentioned, who's signup is speedy(unlike hotmail).

To the best of my knowledge, all 3rd party processors use email addresses to verify sales information. This is probably the single most important step for reducing the risk of fraudulent purchases.

Although it is not a fool-proof verification system, because of the high risk of fraud (purchase not authorized by cardholder), every 3rd party processor and regular merchant account provider should use this communication link to communicate with the buyer as soon as the purchase is executed for all internet transactions.

Yahoo! mail works fine for most accounts, but some providers actually require a paid ISP type of email account for internet transactions.
