i used to know how to do this, but my brain is so tired right now i cant even rmember!

i am looking to access this

/root/cpanel3-skel
This directory is what will be used as a skeleton for new accounts. For example if you place an index.html file in /root/cpanel3-skel/public_html, and then setup a new account, that account with have a copy of your index.html in their public_html directory.

VIA ftp, where do i go to do that?

also, dont get me started on the cpanel header template changing thngy.... i need to customize mine, but it seems rather confusing as to which themes you can do that with!

You shouldn't be able to access that file via ftp. If you can access /root via ftp then its a possible security hazard. What you should do is upload it to a normal account, then login via ssh and move the files over. You could however setup ftp for your root account, although I wouldn't advise it.

you can use WS_FTP / Cute FTP for that purpose.

You should be able to access it with many ftp programs. But it is in home at the same level as your public_html. You need to set your default directory to home, or be able to go up to your home directory. I use Ftp Voyager and WsFTP and both do it.

You can also use FileZilla using the "SFTP using SSH2" setting.

Its not at home for his case bcause he is root.
That is why he asked how to access it. Because not every FTP client has the SSH2 capability.

yea you need to do a SFTP ssh.com has a free eval too and there quite a bit of handful of others just like the good fellas mentioned above

usually normal FTP locks into a certain directory virtually

SFTP is setup to connect to the SSH server and login as a full user

good luck man

Which one do you guys think is the best?
I am stuck to WS_FTP.
I think it can't get any better than that.

I recommend WinSCP (http://sourceforge.net/projects/winscp/) .
