I cannot remember the name of the company but I was contacted by a company whose name started with a "v" and claimed to be one of 7 owners of the backbone. In searching for a good hosting company for adult sites as well as main stream, I wondered if they would be good. Does anyone recognize them? What is their name? The rep said they were very large. ???
Thanks.

well, meant VDI just typed it wrongly... (actually I was sure when I wrote it that they are called VTI... for some reasons VDI just became VTI in my head).
Anyway, would they qualify also as back bone? That's the issue I'm not sure about!
Are NOCs actually backbones? I'm totally confused with all those terms and hope my mind gets cleared up soon!

VDI just runs a datacenter, so I would say it must have been Verio ( www.verio.com ).

Only need to ask them the timetables on the unannounced closings of data centers before you choose....lol

verio.com is a large hosting company, that also provides high speed backbone connections

vdi.net is a hosting/colo company with backbone connections to different provders

so, Verio would be connected to Telcos or be some offspring of Telco companies, right?
VDI on the other hand would need to have someone like Verio to rent dedicated lines?

Verio is, essentially, a telco. They offer telecommunications services. That doesn't mean they have to be an offspring of a traditional telco like AT&T though.

Right. :)
