View Full Version : Whats consider an active forum
saghir69 01-20-2005, 11:58 AM Hi
I have a forum that i started around 5-6 months back, its got over 10,000 post, its getting traffic from search engienes and getting new members too, around 5 a week,
around 200 member , not that many active tho, still gets around 20 posts daily .
I don't do anything to it anymore.
Would that be considered an active forum?
just want your opinions
the_pm 01-20-2005, 12:05 PM Yeah, I'd say that's active. That's about our rate of growth right now for the past 2-1/2 months our forums have been online, and most of our regulars are pretty pleased at the rate of use, myself included.
I'd say you have a good start there :)
The Enigma 01-20-2005, 04:33 PM well your far ahead of me, but yes that is a pretty active forum. one im admin at doesn't get very many posts a week. like 40 if we are lucky
Oshaka 01-20-2005, 07:36 PM Low members with a high post count is good. Meaning most of them are active and contributing . Try finding more members like that ;)
Lars-Christian 01-20-2005, 07:46 PM "An active forum" is a very broad concept actually, but technically any forum with any activity at all is an "active forum". Of course, when potential advertisers or whatever are looking for an "active forum", they would most likely be looking for something more thant just a post or two per day, and a new member every month or so.
It ultimately comes down to the situation, and the eyes that are looking, really.
Tmonster 01-21-2005, 07:00 AM I guess you should consider forum as active if there are at least 25-30 online users anytime.
hostjet 01-22-2005, 04:14 AM It is just a matter of opinion, I would consider an active forum as one that gets at least 25 posts a day.
rysolag 01-24-2005, 02:12 AM interesting question. do you guys think the number of members increase exponentially assuming that the forum is decent.
think about how many people are out there. and also realize that only a small % of the worlds population is connected to the web. nows the time to start a site. in the next 2-3 decades they'll be millions - even billions more people online. it's going to be nuts i tell you. im worried about my bandwidth usage!;)
saghir69 01-24-2005, 04:51 AM ^ hey there is nothing to worry about, you can always get a unlimitted account lol
PlaneWalker 01-24-2005, 11:00 PM interesting question. do you guys think the number of members increase exponentially assuming that the forum is decent
Tough question, and I think really depends on what the forums are covering.
For example, my forums are approaching the 500 member mark and receive between 40-50 posts per day. I get a few new members a week now.
However, much of the content of the forums (almost 30k posts) are read by lots of non-members. People who are there for the content but don't need the membership to read it. For example, here are my stats for this month (keeping in mind we have 1 more week left)...
Unique Visitors: 772
Number of Visits: 5,682
Pages: 75,351
Hits: 571,931
So basically, I don't get a lot of new members, but I get a lot of traffic. The rate of new members has really not changed for months, but the traffic and bandwidth increases regularly. This month has a very low volume as it relates to World of Warcraft and there are a lot of people spending more time in the game than on the forums - but back when WoW was first released and before, I was easily getting 1million hits every 2.5 weeks and tons of unique visitors, though the membership was still climbing at it's usual pace. These are simply forums, and they eat 5+ gigs per month (though, again, less for this month).
Anyway, like I said, it would vary from forum to forum based on a number of factors so getting a solid answer to that question is not really possible in my opinion.
saghir69 01-26-2005, 06:39 AM yeah i'm happy with the current state of the forum.
I guess if i spend time on the site, i could get it ranked much higher but , don't have time :(
Tmonster 01-26-2005, 08:22 AM Then you need to find good moderators and they will spend time there. helping other people and increasing the popularity of the whole community.
