Thks
Walter 02-19-2002, 07:47 AM There are many around: WHM/CPanel, Plesk, HostGui and others.
Do a search on the forum and you will find many comments about them.
There is no "best" control panel.

And what should that mean in plain old English?
DigitalXWeb 02-19-2002, 10:52 AM If someone put Ensim/Plesk admin capabilities on the backend and Cpanel/Alabanza on the front for end users, that would probably be the one everyone would be using. You would have the best of Administration and the Ease for the end user.. Maybe one of the new ones coming out has this in mind, we will have to wait and see ;)
Just my opinion of course
Brian,
You have hit it on the head, maybe if all of the companies joined together, we'd finally have the answer.

Its not out of the question for a few to combine forces but you'll never see them all combined.... at least not company wise but you could feature wise.
Jag,
I'm just waiting for my free copy of HostGUI to play with. I'm sure it takes the best of all of them and makes them better.
Keith
I don't know whether this fits really in here. My host is using H-Sphere. For me as customer it's just great all the things I can manage myself.

hmm. Is this a pre-release subliminal plug??? (starts drooling). :D
BarryS 02-20-2002, 12:50 AM HSphere from psoft.net is a great hosting system and is being continuously improved. You may like to check it out.
greggish 02-20-2002, 02:06 AM I don't understand why people keep talking about HostGUI like its the best thing since sliced bread. So many people seem to be so sure that this will be the Holy Grail of CPs. As far as I know this is still vaporware right? I mean there isn't even a demo on their site...although I do admit that the screen shots are nice. But I can whip up some nice pictures too.

People were talking about the Plesk 2.0. Came out - talk stopped. People talked about Jumplines new launch - they canned it. Ensim 3.0 - came out. Talk stopped. All CPs are basically the same. They allow for multiple levels of control, the make it to where anyone can become a host, and they all have the basic necessities 95% of all customers will ever use.
One thing some don't realize is that just like hosting, CP software vendors will become a commodity. Many will wash out after time. My advice is to pick the one you feel will have longevity. I feel Ensim has set its self up for long-term. They have some big customers and big financial backing.
Ensim are working on too many things at the same time and don't do enough updates. If you loook around abit you will see that there are loads of complaints about ensim !
And I prefere plesks support by far but none of these control pannells have axactly what I want so I've decided to start learning how do all the things that the cP's do by hand so that I could then make a script that does it all, and how I want it done !
Any recomendations on good books etc would be helpfull (if one day I manage to make something it will be free !
