What is the general procedure when something like this happens?

It's over 1,000 US$ that has disappeared in the mail!

Was it sent via registered post? Did you send the cheque or was it sent to you?

Sent to me. Normal post I believe.

Get the client to cancel the cheque and resend it out...

Why not checking your postal system?

Thank you for your replies. I have come to an agreement with the guy that is paying me. If I do not receive it within a few days he will resend it.

That would be what I would do. Otherwise, I know one of my friends had a client who sent a check that was "lost in the mail" It turns out she never sent the check.

Yes, I ran into that a few times. Folks will sometimes use it as a delay tactic on invoices because they don't have the money to pay it immediately.

That's why we debit all fees via EFT and credit card. ;)

"My checks always get lost in the mail... most of the time it's when my rent is two weeks past due and I'm broke... but a lot of the times it's to the cable company... I wonder what's up with that?" -anonymous
