I am new to this so please forgive me. I have recently setup an account with McHost. I want to know if it is possible to setup private individual CPanels with sub domains? Thanks for your time.

Trent Lats 02-19-2002, 01:38 AM This looks like good start: http://forums.mchost.com/showthread.php?threadid=3886&highlight=subdomain+cpanel Lats... grafikat 02-19-2002, 09:50 PM I bet you can: Subject Cpanel demo account Author Jason Mans You can provide a cpanel demo account for your customers by using http://demo:account@www.domain.com/cpanel Can't imagine showing your customers a demo if they can't use it :stickout Cheers Kat MCHost-Marc 02-20-2002, 04:14 AM Imagine a demo where everyone could upload files and execute them, create mail accounts and send emails. Problems like these happened with other hosting companies, search the reseller forums :) With disabling these features in the demo we just make sure that nobody can abuse the server. AlaskanWolf 02-20-2002, 05:07 AM Marc What other precautions do you take with demo accounts? mdrussell 02-20-2002, 05:26 AM I too would be interested in precautions other hosts take. We used the WHM option of 'enabling demo mode' on the account, and we will only give out details of the demo of both WHM and Cpanel through email - I see some hosts offer links to a demo from their site, and imho, this is asking for trouble... Matt MCHost-Marc 02-20-2002, 05:56 AM A static demo (see http://demo:account@mchost.com/cpanel/ ) with everything disabled is pretty much the safest way. I see dozens of hosting companies out there with a fully-functional CPanel demo, from webmail over FTP to even shell access. Even without shell access, any spammer/cracker could and will upload files in less than a minute and bring the machine down. mdrussell 02-20-2002, 06:13 AM Originally posted by Kiwi A static demo (see http://demo:account@mchost.com/cpanel/ ) with everything disabled is pretty much the safest way. MCHost-Marc 02-20-2002, 08:51 PM Originally posted by AlaskanWolf What kind of scripts could they upload to bring a machine down? spam scripts, dos scripts, etc. it is already hard to track what your clients upload. giving everyone access to your machine is a paradise and invitation for abusers. |
