View Full Version : Do you use 2Checkout?
FULLAMHRD 01-17-2005, 06:28 PM Hey guys, I am wondering who here uses/used 2checkout specifically for webhosting billing?
Is it really as bad as people say? What major problems are there? I want to use the modernbill integration. Any problems with that? Have you migrated away from 2checkout? If so did you lose any customers in the process?
I was going to go with worldpay. But it seems they are both as bad as each other! And both do not allow you to keep customer credit card details!
Thanks

Why do you consider this as bad or negative
As people are getting more and more cautious with their credit card details, it could
be used as positive marketing like "We will never know your cc details" ;)
And 2checkout doesn't store your credit card details either.
I like paying via 2checkout. Just my opinion as a webhosting customer :)
tay_2005 01-18-2005, 01:37 PM You can always join it and have it refund with 30 days if you dont like it.
nybble 01-19-2005, 12:43 PM I use 2checkout. I love 2checkout.
Sure they've had problems but they have fixed them and... everyone has a problem sometime.
They only give you problems if you give them problems.
henker 01-19-2005, 01:16 PM 2CO actually is a *nightmare*.
nybble 01-19-2005, 01:21 PM What I don't understand is why everyone hates them.
Sure, you have 10 orders and they are all chargebacks then they close your account and then everyone yells at them.
You give them non-valid information and they suspend your account.
You don't respond to their requests and they close your account.
They have their merchant account to protect they can't have everyone running around like monkeys. Seems some people want their money so bad they won't give it back even if it was stolen.
The only problems I have seen from them are as follows:
User used an API to post credit cards from his website and 2checkout closed account. Please read T&C.
User lived in Brazil and wanted to process his own credit cards.
User gave false information.
All I see is people trashing them but nobody looks at how hard they actually work over there. They deal with DDOS attacks almost daily. Hackers saying "Give us money or else" and then a bunch of monkeys bashing their service because it didn't work for them.
Buy an account -- if you don't like it leave.
It's $50, not like it's an arm 'n a leg :)

Well, my leg costs $50 though... :emlaugh: Just kidding !
kelvinklay 01-19-2005, 04:55 PM i recently signed up on 2checkout to test the CC processing.
The admin panel looks good to me.
But i heard very good comments for Worldpay and already applied.
Lebanon 01-19-2005, 05:22 PM i am satisfied with 2co the only problem i face is that sometimes customers i know in person get fraud risk warning and have to fax and verify which is a long procedure for some customers especially when u do know this is a 100% verified order.
But yet , u dont really get much chargebacks !
We usta use 2CheckOut and never had a problem in the three or so years they were processing for us.
The only things I didn't like were:
- the charge appeared as 2CheckOut and not our business name. That confused a few people for some reason.
- the admin interface is pretty crappy. Usable, but crappy.
E_man3 01-19-2005, 09:41 PM Not yet.
But will be using it soon.

i don't see what's wrong with WP... I've been using them for quite a number of months now and love it. Other than the fees and DDOS a few months ago, they seem to be pretty good...
cyberultra 01-20-2005, 03:37 AM 2Checkout.com seems to have improved in their support and less downtime now. So I do not have many complaints about their service.
Their rate is pretty high based on our current processing volume but too bad we do not have a better choice at the moment.
I was thinking to use our local 3rd party gateway (eNETS) however their system is just not as mature as 2Checkout's.
Worldpay seems to be pretty good but too expensive and they hold very high reserves, may cause some cash flow problems if you do not have much backup.
I'll prefer not to know/keep customers' cc information as you will have extra liability to protect them, unless we have no choice because we need to do recurring billings.
My 2 cents :)
Arlanda 01-20-2005, 12:26 PM I use as gateway both paypal and 2checkout. I love both of them :)
cdgcommerce 01-20-2005, 12:39 PM I think every popular solution on the market has its place.
For 2CO, if you are outside of the U.S. and can't obtain a direct merchant account or if you are in the U.S. and only do occasional, sporadic volume I think a solution like 2CO or PayPal can be just fine.
For any business focused on growth and that does a larger amount of volume, getting a direct merchant account solution is a better option in most situations.
You have far more control over your account, the portability to switch or upgrade to different gateway systems that aren't proprietary (like a 2CO or PayPal system would be), and access to your card data in case you ever switch billing systems or desire to sell your business or switch to a lower cost structure for your processing.
Regarding the liability issue, you can utilize a secure payment gateway that does recurring billing and stores that info for you - like eProcessingNetwork, Authorize.Net's ARB or iTransact.
Just make sure any gateway you select is CISP-compliant so that you don't need to worry about any exposure towards that gateway being compromised.

The key there is "most" situations, not all.
We have numerous US based vendors that we sell well over tens of thousands of dollars monthly of their products/ services.
Why do they choose to resell their products thru 2CO?
Almost all would respond with
1) Fraud Protection.
2) Security of CC data ... and
3) 2CO provides the Customer Service.
You mention "... focused on growth...". Many choose to do exactly that, focus on the growth of their business and on exposure of their product/ service, rather than the payment aspect... and they are quite successful at it.
Ali Roman 01-21-2005, 10:13 AM I have been using 2CO since last 15 months, and I must say that its a very good and reliable service, I never had any severe problems with them, the only thing which irritates me and my customers is the FRAUD VERIFICATION TIME which max takes 24 hours, but you know the people who purchase anything they want urgent download.
in the beginng I had a lot of orders which I verified and sent them the downloads but later I got an email from 2CO that the order has been cancelled due ot fraud, so now I have added in my terms and conditions that downloads will be available within 24 hours, NO INSTANT downloads..
but overall 2CO is a very good service, you can open account in countries which are not even listed in paypal..
cheers..
NodusHosting 01-21-2005, 09:07 PM nope. i dont use 2checkout. is it good for a company to accept it?
Optic Clear 01-21-2005, 11:32 PM Hi
I just signed up 2checkout and found the following:
Min release fund US$300.00 for wire transfer. I sent email to the support team and they told me that I can change the release amount to as low as US$10.00. Is this true?
As this min release fund requirement is not in the FAQs, I am not aware when I sign up. But once you log-in to the account, this min release fund is everywhere in the help area.
Any comments would be appreciated.
raycruzer 01-22-2005, 01:21 AM I don't use 2CO, but on the Maculator website, more people inquire about 2CO than any other 3rd Party Processor next to PayPal. I believe its popularity is due to the international support provided by 2CO.
Actually, more people also sign up for 2CO from the Maculator, even more than PayPal. So they must be doing something right!
2CO is the worst payment processor, i would not recommed it to no one, i use it for years now, i dont have any other alternative since im not Us based, but the New paysat works well and i will give it a try.
Since 2CO launched their new admin version, its worst than ever, i losed at least 10 clients becasue their system was rejecting cards, tehy never put even a notice on the website that their system was not working, i sended clients to paysat and it worked well. They also dont support Customization of headers anymore, i also was losing recurring charges not being billed, 2CO did charged my clients but did not put money on my account, they do this allot specially with orders going over 100$, support is terrible, they never give you a person reply but just copy and paste from the FAQ, if you are lucky you get a reply in 3 weeks, sometimes they just close your tickets without a reply. If you open to much tickets or send them tickets becasue you have problems they just make an excuse and close your account, i heard this about clients that complaiment about 2CO, so if they steal your money or the system is not working dont complain to much. Also you have to put all over your website that you resell from 2CO. 2Co was great some years ago, but now its terrible, the support doesnt exist, you will lose orders and your bills will never be right, just take a calculator and you will always see something is wrong. They are losing tons of clients each month and i dont thing they are to stay in business for much longer. Very bad, dont use them. They actually now blocked their forum to visitors do you cant see posts, why?? Becasue you will see you bad they are, people on forum complains all the time.

As i mentioned in the other topic i had never had any problems with 2co support being a connected vendor, i got my replies in max 3 days !
I also liked the fact, that 2co accepted my business, which never got approved by MerchantBoss -cought- **** -cought- without explaining the reasons. I have recieved some complaints from my customers about strange errors they get, but their second credit card never failed. well maybe i am still on the way to see all the horrors of 2co, who knows.
unity100 07-04-2005, 09:26 AM yes, 2co is our main cc processor for over 1.5 years now.
oddly, we did not have any problems with them, not even in the v1-v2 transition stage.
our we had 2 chargebacks over 1.5 years and 2co cancels around maybe 10-20 % of orders due to fraud. this has been declining recently too.
but indeed, the main problem with 2checkout is the recurring issue. they have a recurring sale setup, however with modernbill this does not work, and this is the foremost defect of both services.
bugsoft 07-04-2005, 11:19 AM I recommend everyone staying AWAY of 2 checkout, 2 accounts opened with them and I had problems with both. Problems I won't detail in here but I've closed them all.
doc56 07-04-2005, 01:04 PM I have 2 accounts in 2checkout and no have problems with them.
