View Full Version : Moderator Logic

I'm slightly confused at the logic used by the "moderators" at WebHostingTalk.

The description of the dedicated servers forum is:

Current and past experiences with dedicated and virtual dedicated providers, bandwidth, and server performance.

Therefore, I'm at a loss as to why the thread I started yesterday has been locked:

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=364683

Not only that, but a "Community Liason" appears to be accusing me of have ulterior motives when I'm simply trying to find a new host and a "Community Leader" is accusing me of being a troll called Kris without the slightest clue of who I even am.

I think the admins need to assess their moderation techniques and general manner before unleashing their bureaucratic tendencies on the forums.

Here is a quote from another website:

I agree about WebhostingTalk.com. Their main moderator Chicken is a jerk who likes to play God and is very immature. He needlessly edits posts, deletes them, and bans good members wrongly accusing them of something he imagined. Chicken even added me to some spam lists when I disagreed with him.

Stay away from WebhostingTalk.com. It an extremely biased and poorly-run forum.

I agree with your view, just recently I was trying my best to project all WHT related sites, and because the mods were being utterly fast to make decisions, WHT is now vunerable to all of those who I previously prevented from posing major issues.

I feel sorry for some people such as Prohacker as he will ultimatly have to deal with what the mods brought onto the sites. And Inet is not to blame, its the actual moderators.

I do not blame everyone, only some highly ignorant ones.

There are many reasons we close threads, we make a judgement call based on our experience of moderating WHT. Ultimately with a community so large some people will disagree with some of the calls we make, that's fine and to be expected.

I didn't close this particular thread but I can see why it has been closed (actually any one of three logical reasons).

What are those three reasons, if you don't mind me asking?

Kris/MrPJ, the moderator named Chicken has not been on the WHT crew for a long time. I would also point out that he was liked and respected by many. The article you referred to in the thread is also very old. No offense sir, but it may be time to buy a calendar. :)

DJ Plasma, what exactly are you trying to say? That almost sounds like a threat.

As quoted above, the forum description specifies "past" experiences. Having siad that, at the time of posting I hadn't necessarily noticed the date of the article

This forum isn't for questioning the mods of why a thread was closed. That's why they have a HELPDESK (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/helpdesk/). If you CLICK ON THE HELPDESK LINK (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/helpdesk/) you can tell them all of the great reasons why you think they were wrong in their decision.

So... CLICK IT (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/helpdesk/)

Nope it's called trying to keep a large community running smoothly. You might want to try it sometime before you are so quick to judge. :emlaugh:

Actually, a moderator moved my thread here but thanks for the useful information.

The tone of your post and the use of capital letters just outlines the points made by several other users about the attitudes of some people here.

They'll live... trust me. :)

Don't like my attitude, ignore me.

Otherwise, take your debate with the mods to the Helpdesk... they aren't here to debate their decisions.

I wouldn't say a post referring to a relevant article is causing the community not to run smoothly.

The moderators and admins here seem to aggrevate situations a lot of the time. I don't know how community leaders and moderators are selected, but it seems many of them lack communication and organizational skills..

Relevant article? The article was a few years old... give me a break.

You were trolling and got caught.

Just because an article is old doesn't mean it isn't relevant. How am I supposed to know whether RackShack still behave in such a way or not?

As for trolling, I have absolutely no reason to troll. I'm simply looking for a new web host. It is no wonder I've heard negative reports about WHT when a brand new member gets labelled as a troll after making one post.

Regarding your comment about ignoring you, I actually intend to spend my time elsewhere as soon as this thread is done with.
I expect I'm only one of many to register and then leave soon after.

It would be no surprise to me based on what I've seen in the last 24 hours, if this thread were to be locked or deleted anyway.

If you do not like the Moderators, then go to a different forum, simple as that.
