hi all

I have just created a webhosting company. Lets call it xxxhost.com. Is there any reason why I should not use xxxhost.com as the nameserver while still using xxxhost.com as the main webpage?

or should I buy a new domain xxxhostdns.com like many other hosts have done?

What are the advantages of this?

Thanks!

Sorry I could not use the edit function. What I mean is should I purchase xxxhostdns.com to use soley as a nameserver or is it allright to use my webhosting domain name (xxxhost.com) as both the nameserver and webpage domain name

It is ok and very common to use the primary domain to handle DNS as well as the main webpage. You can setup a couple of subdomains like ns1.xxxhost.com and ns2.xxxhost.com

What is important when you setup the DNS servers is not if they are running on their own domain or not but if ns1 and ns2 are running on two different servers in two different datacenters. Many webhosts are running both ns1 and ns2 on the same machine which means that if that server goes down will all domains handled by that DNS server go down even if they are hosted on other servers.
