I am considering running some promotions on WHT through the 468x60 banners up top. I am curious to find out personal experiences from people who have advertised on WHT.

Specifically, what did you learn from the experience, what was the return on investment (if any), and did you run additional campaigns or renew?

First off, I wouldn't recommend running a promotion of less than $250 or $500 as WHT get's a lot of visits and will run through your ads really quickly.

Second, we didn't see a single signup from our ads, but we did see an increase in traffic. That was our goal though, branding, not so much sales. And our prices are high for WHT standards, so we were just trying to let people know we existed =)

I don't even remember seeing yours up there!

Anyways we had similiar experience, a few clicks, no signups. Then again our market isn't really WHT for what we were marketing so I believe it was our fault and not WHT. If your looking to sell something to hosts then it is a great market.

Hehehe, I guess it didn't quite work on EVERYONE then :) We ran it a few months ago - a small campaign - and like you said, a few clicks and no signups. However, it seems that are traffic has increased a noticeable amount since then, so I would assume some of them are return visitors.

We ran a 2 to 3 week campaign, $3000 I believe. It did get signups and it was targetted to the reseller section only.

We do plan to take up a campaign again shortly at WHT but mainly for branding. WHT certainly doesn't have the highest conversion rate.

Spending a few thousands dollars is a must at WHT for effective exposure.

whatever

I'm intending on using WHT ads for branding as well. What I would like to know is, if I spent $5000 on top banner ads for say 3-4 weeks, does it help in branding? Do people remember you as a Host? Do you get any returning visits?

Thanks....

Hey Hodo, its good to hear that you received some signups. With the signups you received how long would it take you to recoup the $3000 in advertising costs spent?

WHT will chew up and spit out $250-500 worth of advertising in a day if that long.

If you have the ad budget it is well worth it but I would say better for branding purposes not hoping for X amount of customers per $$$ spent.

Good point the CTR on banner campains is very low to begin with so one would be better of using it for branding purposes rather than banking on new accounts.

Ran a few 468x60 ad campaigns on the top a while back. High click percentage but no sales. Mostly other hosting companies checking out the competitions' new banner I guess :)

What company was your campaign for? And when was 'a while back?'
