What type of user load you have on server. How many concurrent connection ?.

Do you have once 1000 concurrent connection and Zone alarm works without any problem ?

Do you application protection turn on ? or only port block is turn on ?.

Thanks

Its in not busy server. In windows if u really have lot of traffic, buy an hardware firewall. Otherwise your box cpu resources is used to firewall handling.

Why is that you want software firewall rather than hardware?

It is quite expensive to get hardware firewall from server provider. I am looking at the planet and they have $69/month and $99/Month hardware firewall and most company do not accept any hardware from customer. We have to use their hardware and pay premium.

Firewall cost is making entire cost too high for only one site to host on one dedicated server.

vanHelsing,
Thank you for your response.

I am really surprised by not getting many reply on this question.

Do most hosting company are not using hardware OR software firewall ?. Are they stay in DMZ ?.

May be I am too concerned about security of my server

I wouldn't recommend ZoneAlarm for a server - its configuration is .. limited in my experience.

SyGate does a very nice firewall, with advanced configuration that does almost everything I could think of, and agnitum's is pretty good too.

Both have free versions, so try them and see.

Have you tried BlackIce Server Protection, or my personal favorite Kerio Server Firewall? I dont exactly trust BlackIce, but Kerio makes a really nice product

Kerio:

The problem you're running into isn't the lack of information, it's the fact you're looking to find a "CHEAP" solution to the matter.

Windows + Security Solutions does not usually = cheap.

"IF" this is a free member site, you may want to think about getting a small monthly access fee from them.

This will allow you to get the needed hardware/software with little to no out of pocket expense.

While you can find free or cheap solutions to the matter, I think @ 1000 connections you may want to invest on something a little more robust.

At this level I would almost certainly look into a hardware solution.

What is your budget?

My budget is max $200-250/Month which should included Server, Shared SQL Server

I think I can get this from SM within budget but hardware firewall is throwing out of budget (they charge min. $69/month for hardware firewall). This firewall is available for $125 in market but they do not let you buy your own hardware which I understand
