Yahoo domains 1&1 There are much better registrars but they do cost more than the 2 above HostBidder 01-14-2005, 02:16 PM Thanks for your response, cheap domains indeed. If there are better registers what are the disadvantages of using a cheap register? WARP3 01-14-2005, 02:29 PM Depends on what you call 'cheap' .. you could become a registrar yourself, but offcourse that would require some initial investment. To buy domains as a reseller you could become (for instance) an Enom ETP ($6.95 per domain). okieboy 01-14-2005, 03:24 PM darn yahoo is pretty cheap. I thought prices were 6.00 bucks or something jussolutions 01-14-2005, 03:59 PM telivo have a sale on at the moment othellotech 01-14-2005, 06:51 PM Originally posted by HostBidder If there are better registers what are the disadvantages of using a cheap register? If they're very cheap, no guarantee that they will be around for long, or that you wont get problems with the domains. Cheaper registrars have to cut costs somewhere - usually this means a lack of support / service or no API/integration facilities. With many they do it to "buy" market share - next week they might not be so cheap, several have started out cheap and hiked their renewal/transfer prices etc once you're suckered in. Some actively try and market other services to the registrants, effectively cutting out the remainer of your business model. As with most things - you get what you pay for. Paying over the odds - you lose a little money. Paying under the odds, you lose a lot of sleep ... Vlada 01-14-2005, 07:47 PM Yahoo for sure, have few domains there and work just fine... Techno 01-14-2005, 08:13 PM I signed up as a Yahoo affiliate through Commission Junction - and get 20% on each sale. So a $4.98 domain only costs me $3.98. ...but Commision Junction only cuts checks at $25 mimimum so I need to make some more sales (with any CJ vendor) before I realize the savings. okieboy 01-14-2005, 09:58 PM wow 3.98 net cost? very cool, I may try them. Techno 01-14-2005, 11:21 PM Yahoo says the $4.99 is only for the first domain, but I have registered 3 @ $4.99 OriginXT 01-17-2005, 02:54 AM Wow, how does the CJ thing work? Please help? kewlu 01-18-2005, 01:44 AM $4.99 per domain name??? They can't possibly be making money at that prices????? What's the catch?? eSology 01-18-2005, 07:59 AM They are not making money from the domains...it is called a loss leader. A) the prices won't stay that low forever, B) you may lose some functionality (haven't there been a lot of complaints about 1&1), and C) price isn't everything. If you only have one or two domains, no problem, but managing a large portfolio with some of these people would be very tedious. I could never imagine handling 500 domains with a control panel like Dotsters or GoDaddys. |
