I live in China, and I have a small hobby of collecting Chinese communist propaganda posters. I intend on setting up a proper site to sell them. Which kind of top-level domain name would be better for a store like this? What would be the better domain name to register, a regular dot-com or .com.cn, or just plain .cn? I can get the hosting in the U.S., so it's not like I'll be worried about customers not being able to get to the site. But what's the pros and cons of the two top-level domains?

I know there are cost and registrar issues, but I'm mostly concerned about what customers will think when they see the .com.cn or .cn on my domain name instead of a comforting old .com.

drencrom, welcome to WHT. :)

Let me ask you a question. Is your target audience (that you hope will purchase the posters) located mostly in China? Mostly in America? Everywhere (worldwide)?

The customers will be in the U.S. and Europe.

I'm assuming...I'll ship anywhere since it's all international anyway.

It's a no-brainer: ALWAYS go for .com; and if you have some spare change, register .com.cn AND THEN .cn. Good luck.
