Hello all,

What I'm looking for is a host that offers multiple domains, can run a Search Engine (mySql) script smoothly and fair bandwidth rates.

I've narrowed my choice down to these 2:

2GlobalMart.com (http://www.2globalmart.com/multiple-domain-hosting/unix-hosting.html)

- Drilled them with a half dozen emails which they responded to all of them same day.
- Checked out a website they host which uses a search engine script and it loaded pretty quick.
- The sales person, and the site which uses them, both admit that they are not very cgi-script knowledgeable, but they help in everyway they can and servers seem fine.

The other choice:

GearHost.com (http://www.gearhost.com/services/hosting/shared/prices-features.asp)

- Took 2 days to receive a response to initial email but followup emails were replied to same day.
- Appear more knowledgeable about scripts etc.
- Do not currently use Unix but plan to in a couple weeks.

Does anyone have any final experiences they can share about either one of these companies? (speed / stability / anything)

Thanks for the reply - this board has been very helpful!

Well I'm not sure about 2GlobeMart, but I can tell you that I have spoken (that is, through email) with Ryan from Gearhost and they seem quite professional. One thing to know is that Gearhost does a great deal of planning before launching anything to ensure that it goes smoothly. So it may take more than a few weeks to get their unix accounts going, however when they do it should be great.

So if you choose Gearhost and need unix, it's just a matter of how long you can wait. As for the other option, I know nothing about them, so wait for someone else who does to reply :)

Good Luck ;)

The thing with GearHost is that they always tell you "next week" for just about anything...whether it's features of their iControl panel or UNIX plans.
They've said "next week" for over a month about their UNIX plans.

It's okay that they want to make sure everything's ready to go beore launching their UNIX plans, but there are customers that have gotten tired of those unrealized "next week" promises.

You can use the search function above to get feedback.
Type in co. name and past postings will result.
There has been plenty of discussion on gearhost but Im not sure about the other one.

...If you don't mind, when did you hear it will be two more weeks for the Unix plans? I spoke with them just last week by phone and by e-mail and this is supposed to be ready early this week. I know, I've heard that many times and so have so many others I just thought this time was for real...:(

make sure you try 'company' 'company.com' 'www.company.com' seperatley, since boolean search doesn't seem to work.

In the email reply from their salesman (gearhost) he said (Quote):

"...we're coming out with our Linux plans within two weeks..."

I have checked 2globalmart.com after reading this thread, and tested all of three featured sites listed on it through http://webservices.cnet.com/ping/ . The reading is around 16~18 ms, which is pretty fast.

Given the multiple domain hosting ability and the competitive prices it offeres, I'd like to give them a try, transferring one domain to see what would happen. If it's good after trying, I then transfer my other domains to it.

Thanks for the info.

I've been using 2globalmart since Around May (?) of last year and I'm ready to jump. I'm looking for a new host now, probably a reseller. I have three clients plus my site with them and here's what's happened just in the past two months:

One client's site was down for a week when servers were attacked in January. I kept emailing them, telling them what was wrong: their SQL Server database box was down. They kept emailing me back and blaming it on me. They said there was an error in my code. There was no error in my code, it had not been changed in months and worked perfectly up until that time. It took me and my client sending multiple emails to them to get it fixed finally.

Just this week, they had a bad sector on one of their hard drives. They migrated all the customer data over, but my sites have now been in a state of disarray for two or three days. Hopefully, they'll all be functional soon...

I need a custom tag installed for ColdFusion and they won't do it. I've told them about 5 times now exactly what needs to be done and they won't listen. It's a simple copy of a file from point A to point B, but they won't listen and they won't do it, and on top of that, they told me that I was wrong and the specified file COULDN'T be a custom tag, which was 100% incorrect.

This is just my experience with them, but it has been miserable. I'm taking my business elsewhere. They make it difficult to run a business with their service.
