We received an e-mail yesterday, asking whether we would partner with this company. It seems strange that we would receive such an offer, especially since we are not well known yet. Here is the message I received.

Name: Claiborne F. King
E-mail address:

Occupation: eCommerce Business Development
RE: Point of Contact request

Comment: I am with First Data Corp's (FDC on NYSE/www.fdc.com) Cardservice
International (www.cardservice.com). I am seeking a point of contact within your
business development group in order that I may provide a formal performance-based
profit sharing proposal for the promulgation of our LinkPoint Secure Payment Gateway
(www.linkpoint.com) e-commerce solution to your readership. FDC processed 3/4th's of
all credit card transactions for US based merchants in 2004. CSI was awarded
"Acquirer of the Decade" by the Electronic Transaction Association. I am confident
that partnering with Cardservice would represent a healthier bottom line to both
your organization and it's readership. I may be reached by email or phone.

Warmest regards,

Clay King

There was an attachment, which I did not dare to download.

I thought it was a fake, but I replied, and received a reply this morning.

Mr. Olivares,

I thank you for your time in responding today. Here are some
generalizations on the subject. First Data processes one million
transactions every hour, settles more than $5 Billion per day and moved $2
trillion last year. Responsible for three-fourths of all non-cash
transactions within the United States, customers and consumers around the
globe rely on First Data to quickly, accurately, and reliably handle what
they consider to be the single most important transaction - their own. We
accomplish this with confidence by relying on our people - more than 32,000
employees around the globe who are committed to quality, innovation and
customer service, 24/7 and in 140 languages and dialects.

As to our interests in contacting you, as the leader in the fast,
ever-changing world of payment services, First Data is always looking for
channel alliances to act as a conduit for our services. We know that to
remain competitive, businesses have to offer a rewarding experience, a sound
product, competitive pricing, real benefit, a friendly environment and a
corporate culture that cares about the customer's satisfaction. Having a
professional partner like FDC, with a passion for excellence and customer
service, can help insure this.

Having established many alliances based upon similar business models, I
am confident that our services would complement your organizations offerings
while reducing the time of your average inquiry-to-sales cycle, providing
more traction in the process. By partnering with Cardservice International
your subscribers will be afforded the best features, benefits and options
for eCommerce enabling their virtual presence while minimizing the time
associated with traditional application, approval, integration and training
processes, each of which can delay the decision making process and reduce
cash flow. Our solution is well thought-out, well supported, proven and very
easy to integrate. Decisive actions usually work and that alone would
certainly enhance most bottom lines.

As to profit sharing specifically, we will enthusiastically remunerate
10-15% of the Gross Processing Revenues, executed in writing, paid on a
monthly basis and deposited directly into the account of your choosing. We
will provide a web-based interface for total accountability and each online
application will result in the sharing of information about the applicant.
We will assume all of the fees associated with the application, the approval
and the training processes. We will provide the full LinkPoint Gateway suite
of eCommerce solutions to your subscribers at no charge. All technical
assistance and customer support associated with the LinkPoint and the
merchant account is available 24/7. Our LinkPoint Secure Payment Gateway
will afford your subscribers the greatest degree of security and flexibility
in the handling of their non-cash transactions while reducing both the
initial and the ongoing monthly expenses associated with an eCommerce
merchant account.

I would like to share additional details pertaining to the various
standard processing fees and will preface this with the comment that the
model may be adjusted to enhance traction or profitability, depending upon
your discretion. I have attached a blank agreement for your consideration
but if you would prefer a technical exchange first, please let me know.

What would you say? As I said, we are not well-known; we just started up a week ago. The fact that they replied is a plus, but I am still not sure.

I normally wouldnt trust a UCE. If you need such a service search google, I am sure you can find a lot more. Avoid giving biz to those who practice sending UCEs

never buy from spammers
doing so just encourages more spammers

It isn't a partnership in the normal sense that you are thinking of where you will have dealings with their day-to-day operations. They want you to "partner" with them to use their merchant services. Just like I "Partner" with Authorize.net for my payment gateway.

Its like "partnering" with Cpanel to provide a control panel for your hosting service.

All the emails are is solicitation for their services.

I realize that. From what it says, it is through Linkpoint? I could probably use that. What do you think?

I think you should do a little more research on the company. Look up their company on google, search WHT for reviews, and find out how long they were in business.

If you are seriously looking I do use Card Service International, and they're not too bad (as merchant accounts go).

Their "REAL" URL is http://www.cardservice.com/

Thank you for the suggestions.

I'm not looking. I was just checking our sales e-mail account the other night and that e-mail was in there.

Thank you again. I will discard it.

Card Service International is a pretty big company, but make sure you contact a legitimate contact through http://www.cardservice.com/ first to make sure it's for real.

Cardservice is a real company. I would report that reseller to them for spamming. CSI takes that very seriously. Especially since they are in California and the spam law can be used against them here.

It is resellers like that who make all the other ones look bad

BTW, I just got off the phone with a representative over there. They told me to contact the regional manager. You can email him at MOShea (@) csi-corp . com to report the agent for spamming. Please forward that email if you did not delete it

I got the same email. Have to check my deleted and see if it is still there.

Definitely DacSoft - I spoke with a few other CSI people. They take this very seriously. The agent runs the risk of damaging no only themselves, but CSI and other agents of CSI. Plus, if they (the recipients) are in California - CSI can be liable for that spam law
