Does anyone work as a reseller as a second job? Is this possible?

It is possible........but just make sure that you are available to give support.....

ideally, you want to have a job where it is possible to provide support from work.........

Many do this.
But don't expect to get rich quick.

it's possible but I'd generally recommend against it unless you have someone there to handle the job while you're not there. Most of our support requests come in between 6am and midday with the second highest period being between 5pm and around 11pm or so. As you can see, doing a 9-5 at the same time is going to put some strain on you getting both jobs done right.

Ok well this isnt something i generally admit but i run my company and i am still in the 6th form at school, i'm 18. I check mails set up accounts etc before school, then during breaks and free periods at school i check my mails set up accounts etc and then again after school, so its not a second job but i do it along with school. It's hard work but im coping i reply to mails quickly etc

Same thing for me. I'm looking to start reselling soon, but I would be going to high school, holding down a job at shop rite, and running a web hosting company. Eventually I might find a couple minutes to sleep too. :D

Actually, I would quit my job a shop rite as soon as I started to make some profits in web hosting and then I would go into web hosting & design completely and maybe even hire a couple of extra support/sales people to help. I would also start learning even more about freebsd server administration so that I could use some profits to get a couple/few deds. up and running.

Yeah, but if all goes right I can graduate as the "most likely to have already succeeded". ;)

It is possible,

Im doing this at the moment... It honestly depends were you work, your hours if you have internet access at work and also if you have a cell phone (or mobile for some)

I am based in Australia, and work from 7am till 3pm as Network admin for a good company. Most of my clients at the moment are based overseas which makes support easy, cause when i get home from work there waking up!

For local customers i offer 24 hours SMS/email/icq support and also have a 1300 number for sales ( in au its like a .25 c call cost to the customer) and this in turn is diverted to my cell phone or a voice mail messenger.

If you have internet access at work/ school or whatever, and depending on the setup of the network e.g some ports might be closed by network admins. You can access yourc control panel and web based email address from there to answer any questions or sales requests.;)

Its not easy but possible, as any host in this forums would tell you! Good luck

If you are working a 9-5 job outside your home, it isn't wise to try reselling as a second job. My first job is working out of the home, and as a second job I run a hosting company with a buddy. We offer reselling packages and the people who experience the most success are those who have the time to provide excellent support to their customers. Good luck.

I do network support already to which I'm already sitting in front of a computer all day so I have no problem doing it.

Hello,

I've been wanting to start up a hosting company for awhile now. A few years I went as far as getting a loan and consulting a lawyer for incorporation but realistically it's impossible to do it as a second job. In my case university is my 1st job. I'm currently studying an engineering degree which requires a lot of studying and work, so much it's often hard to find time to sleep let alone work a job.

Personally I think that if your going to be web hosting it requires a lot of dedication just as much as university or college. Thus for me it was a choice, start a new business which could fail or succeed, or get a degree. I choose to get the degree because when I graduate I'll find a nice job as an engineer, and within a few years have the money and time to do the hosting thing right.

So in short, I believe that no, doing hosting as a second job wouldn't work. It may for a few months or so but you have health and mental state to look after and driving yourself to death with work is no way to live life.
