Hey guys, I'm just curious about the recent spate of CC fraud ongoing in the industry.
But unlike using stolen CCs to purchase goods, using it to sign up for a hosting service gives the guy nothing to show for at all - no goods, nothing permanent, and he gets his IP/email/CC tracked down as well.
What gives? I mean, what kind of a criminal mind is that such that you have a stolen CC, but use it on non-tangible goods, only to have it "shut down" within a few hours or days at the most? I just can't seem to come to a definitive conclusion on this... Short of giving the host some chargebacks, (and a few problematic accounts), what do they really gain from doing this?
Opinions, anyone?

I asked this same question myself a few months ago.
One answer is "to spam." Spammers who can work on your server for a couple of days--or even a month, if nobody notices either the spam or the fraudulant card until then--find it well worthwhile. Then they merely move to the next host. Apparently it's worth it (at least to the low-life scumbags like them. Ahem. Sorry.).

Recently we had even one who over a period of over a week kept ordering accounts which were terminated between 5 minutes and 2 hours.
He didn't spam, it was just for "fun". One time he even send us a message how much fun he is having.
Sick mind.

Cool, so we've got a scientific breakthrough here!
Stolen CC holders = perverts
:D
Sure, they send out spam, but what about some of those mentioned on the other posts - even trying to get their domain names hosted and such. That doesn't quite sound like it might be a spammer... Maybe just a big loser with a desire to get free hosting...?

I certainly agree with the Spammer theory. They seem to be getting more brazen as well. Either way, we eradicate them immediately. They are truly Scum.

I think that the people that do this basically have the same mentality as crackers, what does a cracker really gain by getting into someones box (unless they are specifically going after cc #'s which should never be stored there in the first place). I think spammers and crackers do it just for the sake of screwing people and that's it. Nothing really gained besides that.
Just my 2 cents

they are a strange breed, we have a Romanian who keeps ordering using the same email address, about 6 times in the last 2 weeks, I wrote to him and said "look save us all some time and effort and go find something else to do, it isn't going to work" next day another order
they go to the trouble of using a proxy to order, as we have Romainia banned, but still uses exactly the same email address each time - dumb or stupid or both?

Just obnoxious. We had a guy from Romania that was doing the same thing. Just curious, was his first name Rico by chance?

Romania is problematic too? I thought it was mainly Indonesia having all these problems...

Yeah, I was reading somewhere (might have been in WHT!) that Romania recently bumped Indonesia out of first place. What an honor.
