View Full Version : Webhosting FAQ help.
I set about to write an FAQ for my hosting's help-center, but I can't think of anything to write for some reason.
And I thought, I bet a lot of people have this problem.
We can built a set of questions, and each host can answer them theirself.
So far, this is what I have:
Company Info:
How long have you been in business?
Do you own your own servers?
Technical Info:
What kind of servers do you host on?
What are the average technical support reply times?
etc:
How do a make an email account?
How do I point my domain to your servers
What happens if the server goes down?
How do I access my account?
How do I access my account before the domain is resolved?
Do you have a technical support phone number?
And that's where I'm stuck at... Any help for me, and other people in the same situation?
programmer 01-06-2005, 07:08 PM where is CPanel?
where do i point the dns for my domain?
how long will it take for the domain to resolve?
that's all I can think of right now...
peethernet 01-06-2005, 07:25 PM couple more:
When is my payment due?
Where do I put my files?
How can I see how Perl is configured?
How do I access Webmail?
What is the Path to...
Do you accept PayPal, check, money order, etc?
What do I use for POP/SMTP settings?
Do I get SSH root access?
What is propagation?
Is a domain required to host with you?
What is bandwidth?
and the best one of all:
Where is the any key?
whatever 01-07-2005, 03:45 AM We have the following for about Hostime :
Who can sign up for Hostime Packages/Services?
What are the benefits to having a domain/website, and who can own one?
I have little experience with computers, how hard will Hostime be for me to use?
How does Hostime treat users who are new to computers or the internet?
How does the Hostime package system work - must I own a business?
What details does Hostime need before you can create my account?
What is Hostime's account set up speed?
How long does it take to register a domain?
What payment methods does Hostime accept when I order a package?
Does Hostime mail out invoices?
Is it possible to order a domain name without ordering web hosting?
Is Hostime an Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
What if I am not satisfied with my purchase?
How do I contact Hostime?
How do I cancel my package?

most of those are empty :(
Orc Webhosting 01-07-2005, 08:11 PM Using PHP-Nuke for a help system is IMO a very bad idea, not only because its purpose is completely different but also because it's one of the main hacker targets on the web these days.
. . .
I thought it was a good idea :\
self contained forums, faq, contact system, annoucements, etc...
oi..
holiday 01-08-2005, 11:36 AM it would also be nice to find a very reliable, integratable faq system for creating a FAQ database.
Orc Webhosting 01-08-2005, 02:57 PM Well if you want to go the professional way, get Kayako eSupport, it integrates helpdesk incl. e-mail gateway, faq and announcements.
boeki 01-09-2005, 10:38 AM hostlegal.com has a set of legal docs that includes tos, aup, and a comprehensive set of faqs. you should check them out as the price for all the included docs are quite good.
we are not affiliated with hostlegal.com. we bought a set from them and have been using it on our hosting site. we had to customize it, though, for our use but it beats spending lawyers' fees and time to compile info to build up the faqs.
whatever 01-10-2005, 06:47 AM For FAQs, flash tutorials are also great :D
SaveBigHosting 01-10-2005, 07:10 AM i would recommend introducing people to what webhosting really is and a couple of other definition relating to hosting ;)
