For the last week or so I've been playing around with something called User-Mode Linux (http://user-mode-linux.sourceforge.net/.) Basically it's something that will let people run Linux within Linux. I played around with the possible web hosting ramifications.

With this it would be possible to give each virtual hosting customer their own mini system that they can do anything with, running on the main system. They would have their own root passwords and pretty much total control over their "mini" server. However, they would be unable to get into the main server except through hacking it.

Is anyone on this board interested in that sort of thing? Would they or someone else they know be willing to get something similiar to this?

Sounds like a virtual server. Doesn't Sphera do something like that for a fee? I don't know the URL but I remember reading it somewhere around here.

It doesn't look like there is any charge for User mode Linux though. Very interesting. Might have to download and play with it a bit.

freevsd.com does that for free and is 'probably' way more secure than a mini-linux running wild.

freevsd.org is another one that does this

Nevermind .com and .org point to the same site

Sounds alot like ensim, we have been playing around with it the last few weeks, the nice thing about it is they create a virtual drive device that can be moved around from server to server.
