Many times with deals that seem to good to be true, there will be hidden fee's or lengthy support response times. This is not always the case but in order to be able to offer packages at cheaper prices, there has to be some corner cutting and this usually always impacts the customer in one way or another. Do a search here on WHT for the host in question and see if there are any comments on them from previous or current customers.

It is indeed doubtful that he/she will make a profit on this. But for one of various reason they are willing to offer it to you.

If you think the host is reliable you have got yourself a great deal.

That price seems pretty high.

My Current host offer 5 gig transfer, 300MB space, 20 domains and all the bells and whistles for $24.95

but after hunting around quite a bit, I'm thinking of switching over to these guys:

https://www.gearhost.com/services/hosting/shared/prices-features.asp

they have 30Gig transfer, 500MB storage mySql etc. for $14.95

I've seen a couple good comments onthem at this board, but would like to hear if anyone else has experience with them

oops, I thought you meant $75 per month...

just noticed you said per year.

That's pretty cheap are you talking about CyberWings.com ?

They have that price structure but I'm leary. One thing they did say in their support chat is that they work out of their homes (the tech people) which cuts their overhead... but I don't think I want to risk my databases on that set up...

The $ 75.- is0lized quoted is per year, not per month :)

That comes down to 6.25 / month for 15 GB.

No way they can make a profit on it, but again... they might have their reasons.

Definatly make sure they are reliable first though.

If you are talking about Cyberwing's tech support than I can say from personal experience that they are #1 in my book. I have used a few hosts for my sites. I am glad that I finally found one that has been great. Whenever I emailed Cyberwings Tech Support I was assisted right a way. Cyberwings has been nothing but helpful. A+ in my eyes.

I'll second that! I've been with cyberwings since last October and am very satisfied. I have two sites with them so far and have more that I plan to have hosted there. No problems with support, very fast when I need it. I've had the owner chatting with me @ 2am one time:eek: Everyone I deal with at cyberwings is very nice and courteous. If you have anymore questions email me at djhomeskillet@yahoo.com

I can understand the skepticism, but I can say I've been served very well by them. No other host I've had compares.

jake2002 and Dourque, what are your website URLs?

<<MOD NOTE: URLs removed by request>>

Please understand I'm cringing as I give this info to you. I have no idea what a person could do to my sites. One is a family site for my in-laws and has personal family info on it. So please be kind:) I don't mind it, but am a little nervous about it.

Because they work out of their homes they can't be knowledgeable tech support? Because they work out of their homes they can't have fast response times?

Because they work out of their homes they don't have a big office rent, and big insurance payment, and expensive phone system, utility bill to pay, so they can offer good prices, and SURVIVE while other companies are failing trying to be "bigshots" in nice offices with hardwood desks?

Give me the guy who's working out of his home and making a PROFIT any day in preference to "Mr Bigshot" with his Oak desk and company that's bleeding money to look "big time".

Knock a company for having bad support, or crappy up time, but for being fiscally responsible and able to build a profitable business with good business sense is just something I'd be mighty reluctant to knock someone for.

I'm sitting at home as I write this and am also closing trouble tickets and entering new web hosting customers for my own business. I don't have an office.

Can I afford one? Hell yeah, there's some nice offices across the street from where my wife works, I could afford 3 of them if I wanted, but why? So I can sit at a desk 20 miles from here, answer the phone and help people debug their email and perl programs? I can do that here, why would I need that office? It's an unnecessary expense, I'm in this to make a living, not put my company name on some glass door and sit behind a desk polishing my monitor.

who's offering that?

With the time I've been with Cyberwings, I personally think they are great.

I now have 3 accounts with them, which are all very realiable, and offer everything I could want. They are fast, flexible, and great value.

The support is amazing. I get tickets answered in minutes sometimes, and never longer than 24 hours. There is also the forums, where someone is always around to answer questions, and we all help each other out too. Then theres even IRC, with support staff, and people to help out on hand 24/7. I swear these guys never sleep! :eek3:

But when I think - where else do you get frequent contact with the CEO of the company? I'd like to think of Cyberwings being a family or community now, especially with the way we all get to know each other!

As for the stuff about people working from home - what's so bad about it? Its a pleasant comfitable atmosphere, flexible hours (no shutting the office at 5pm...), little stress of getting into work etc, and cuts overheads of renting offices etc, which in turn saves money and they can offer better deals. Personally, I dont mind where they work from, so long as they keep up the brilliant support that Cyberwings (http://www.cyberwings.com) have.

I was recommended to them, and I would recommend them to anyone else! :stickout:
