Is there any reason why a site is able to be viewed via a dedicated IP, but not from the URL?
This seems to be happening fairly frequently lately and I have experienced it with two different registrars but on the same host - leads me to believe the host has a problem but I would not want to jump to conclusions. Thanks
The hosts DNS enteries are probably just screwed. If its viewable via an IP, but not from the URL, and the nameservers are correct, its the hosts fault.

Thanks Skie. Am I to assume that this is something the host is supposed to be able to get right without too much difficulty? Or is the signature of a host that is relatively clueless?

There's the small possibility that your DNS servers are having trouble communicating with your host's DNS servers. If other people are experiencing the same problem, then the host's DNS servers could be having problems.

Are you talking about my ISP's connection possibly being unable to connect to my hosts DNS? I tried accessing by doing a traceroute as well as using visual route from other locations and was still not able to access the site using the URL.
I suppose I need to know what my host needs to do to fix their problem so that I can advise them accordingly. They seem woefully incapable of fixing it permanently so maybe a push in the right direction will help them.

Stupid question, but you did change your nameservers at your domain registrar to your current hosts right? If not that is your problem. If you did do this and it was within the past day or two than it is a resolving issue and will take care of itself. If this was done awhile ago and the nameservers are in fact entered correctly than your host has DNS issues.
If the later is the case just explain to them what is going on and for them to check out the entries in their DNS to make sure they are correct and that DNS is in fact working correctly.

The nameservers are correct and fine. I should also have added that I could not access my hosts site either.

One more thought, if you care to post the domain in question here we can make sure it is not a problem with your ISP. I would imagine you are not referring to the site you have posted in the www link of your profile as I just checked that one and it is working fine. It is more than likely a problem on your hosts end but it's a good idea to check everything out before coming to a final conclusion.
